In A Mistletoe Kiss for the Single Dad by Traci Douglass, Nick Marlowe and Christabelle ‘Belle’ Watson were childhood sweethearts until he broke her heart so she could follow her dreams. However, now they find themselves back in their hometown and being forced to work together after her aunt’s death. Will Belle give Nick a second chance or will she be the one to break his heart this time around?
”I don’t think I heard you correctly.”
Dylan Carter, the only attorney in tiny Bayside, Michigan, and therefore the person handling her aunt Marlene’s estate, took a deep breath. “Um…okay. Sure. It says here your aunt left half of her practice to you and the other half to Dr. Nicholas Marlowe.”
I always enjoy Ms. Douglass’s medical romances and this one was a real treat. Really, it was entertaining, fast-paced and so engaging because of Nick and Belle’s past; the fact that they have to work together in order to honor her aunt’s final wishes; and whether Belle can put her trust in Nick again. Will they be able to work together? Is her aunt’s final wishes a way of getting Nick and Belle back together again?
The way this story started had me very intrigued and very interested to read more, as Belle doesn’t make things easy for Nick. Then again, she has so much going on between wanting to honor her aunt’s wishes and the job that she had to take leave from to be in Bayside. Will she stay? Will being around Nick make her see how unfulfilling her life is? Will the medical emergencies she handles give her a new direction for her life? Moreover, the dialogue was well-written and entertaining because of the obstacles these two face to be together. Really, Nick is determined to do the best he can for his son, which means no distractions. Yet, it’s not easy for him to ignore his attraction to Belle because he still loves her after all their years apart.
With the main characters, Belle is smart, hard-working, kind, caring and I loved that she let Nick back into her life, even knowing things might end in disaster. I also liked the decisions she makes throughout this story, as she begins to see that there’s so much more to life than her career. While the hero, he’s a good dad, a wonderful doctor and I enjoyed the way he won Belle over, even though a relationship isn’t something he’s looking for because he wants all his focus to be on his son now that he’s a single parent. Will Nick’s plan to be the best father he can be work out?
”I don’t want her to leave Bayside,” Con said, and Nick’s heart went into freefall.
Nick sighed and walked back over to the table to take a seat beside his son. “I don’t want her to go either, but she’s got things waiting for her at home.”
“Why can’t this be her home?” He jutted out his chin. “Were you mean to her yesterday?”
“No.” Yes. Nick’s chest squeezed, his words sounding hollow even as he said them. “Belle’s got a life back in California, son. Don’t worry. We’ll be fine, no matter what happens.”
Connor scowled and crossed his arms. “It’s not fine. What about Analia? You’re ruining my wish to–” His son covered his mouth before saying any more, his eyes wide.
Overall, Ms. Douglass has delivered a wonderfully heart-warming second chance romance in this book where the chemistry between this couple was as strong as ever and shows that one never gets over their first love; the romance between this couple was delightful and had me loving that these two took a chance on each other again; and the ending left me with happy tears because of Nick’s determination to fight for a relationship with Belle. I would recommend A Mistletoe Kiss for the Single Dad by Traci Douglass, if you enjoy second chance romances, medical romances, holiday themed stories or books by authors Robin Gianna, Amalie Berlin, Alison Roberts and Ann McIntosh.
