In A Wife for the Surgeon Sheikh by Meredith Webber, Lauren MacPherson will do anything to keep her adopted son safe. However, it seems the past is catching up with her and things could get dangerous, as dangerous as her sister losing her life. So, when Sheikh Malik Madani proposes marriage, Lauren’s not sure what to do. Then again, accepting his proposal will give her adopted son extra protection against any threat. Will their marriage of convenience lead to forever after or will it be in name only?
”Get a cool, wet cloth,” he said to the so-called nanny. “It’s just a faint. I can feel her coming round already, so I’d better put her down because if she realises it’s me holding her she’s likely to hit me.”=
“You can put her on the couch,” a small boy said, his eyes wide with unshed tears as he saw his mother in such a helpless state.
“She’ll be better soon,” Malik assured the boy who was, without doubt, Nimr, for he was the dead spit of Tariq at that age.
Ms. Webber always puts her main characters through tough obstacles to achieve their happy ever after and this story was no different. Really, the way this story started drew me into the story immediately and had me sympathizing with the heroine because she thought she was safe from the danger of her sister’s past, but it seems she’s not. Will Malik be able to convince Lauren to do what he wants? How much of a fight will Lauren put up, especially when she realizes how much danger she and her adopted son will be in if anyone else discovers the truth of his existence? However, it was from the moment the hero and heroine come face-to-face for the first time where this story really takes off because the heroine will do everything she can to fight for her adopted son. Since he deserves a chance at a normal life instead of that of a royal.
As for the dialogue, it was intense due to the main characters back stories and everything this couple go through on their journey to happy ever after including fighting the new rule wanting to be introduced in the hero’s country and whether the heroine can trust the hero. Will Lauren put her trust in Malik, especially after all that she’s been through in her past with losing the people she has the way that she did? Moreover, I really liked the heroine. She’s a fighter that will do anything to protect her adopted son; a little boy that has already been through so much and doesn’t need his life turned upside down anymore than it already has been. She’s also resilient, courageous, stubborn, a good mom and I liked that she would do anything for the little boy that has become her whole world. While the hero, I liked his confidence, his determination to prove to the heroine that he can protect her and her son (who happens to be his nephew) and I liked how determined he was to get to the bottom of what happened to his brother and the heroine’s family. Will Malik get to the bottom of what happened to the people they loved before it’s too late?
You don’t love me?” What else could he think when she spoke so calmly, so coldly?
“Of course I do. And I always will, but we have had our time together and I’ll always have those memories.”
Overall, Ms. Webber has delivered a really good read in this book where the chemistry between this couple was strong and kept getting the stronger the more the heroine resisted the hero while the hero did his best to win her over; the romance was heart-warming and had me loving the hero’s determination to win the heroine’s heart; and the ending had me loving what the hero does to prove to the heroine that he isn’t giving up on their relationship, no matter how much she’s willing to sacrifice to make sure Malik’s country continues to thrive with the right leadership of the hero and her adopted son. I would recommend A Wife for the Surgeon Sheikh by Meredith Webber, if you enjoy the enemy to lovers trope, the marriage of convenience trope or books by authors Louisa Heaton, Becky Wicks, Susan Carlisle and Scarlet Wilson.
