In About a Vampire (Argeneau #22) by Lynsay Sands, Immortal and rogue hunter About-a-VampireJustin Bricker had hoped, but didn’t expect, to find his life mate at his relatively young age. He’s never had a lack of women in his life but kind of envied his friends and their mates. So when Bricker encounters Holly Bosley and she tragically injures herself after he realizes her as his life mate, he turns her immortal. But the instant connection (and explosive life mate sex) he’s picturing doesn’t happen so easily since Holly turns out to be happily married.

“You’ll never age, never get sick, never have go to a dentist again. You’ll always be young and healthy.” Grinning, he grasped her arms lightly and said, “Basically you have won a lotto of sorts. The Bricker lotto.”

Holly knew it was a bad idea to go back to work for her diabetic test kit but running into two immortals was never even on her radar. In her panic to get away, she mortally injures herself, only to wake up in a strange place, naked, without knowing anyone present. Holly finds it difficult to believe Bricker’s explanation that she’s now a vampire and his life mate. She already has a life mate: her husband James. But as Holly learns about her new abilities, she can’t deny a connection with Bricker. How will she hide what she is from James and forget about Bricker?

‘He had to understand that she was married, and happily, and that she loved her husband. She was not open to being his life mate. Still, she hated to hurt his feelings.’

Lynsay Sands gave us readers quite a twist when fan favorite immortal Justin Bricker found his life mate only to discover that she was already married. So what did our Casanova do? He went old school and woo’d her.

The characters in the Argeneau series always have a lot of fun. Mostly at each other’s expense. So it’s especially comical for readers when Lynsay Sands goes to town writing a lot of teasing and pranks into the storyline. If you’ve read any previous novels in this series, you know that Bricker gives all the immortals a hard time about how they’ve flubbed up telling their life mates who they are and what they can expect. Well, we finally get to see Bricker receiving some payback for all that joking. And was it ever fun. (Okay…and kinda mean, lol)

This actually turned out to be quite a sweet love story. Bricker has been known among the immortals as the ladies man who supposedly understands modern women. Yeah, well, he had some learning to do when it came to life mate Holly. She was an interesting match for Bricker where she was totally devoted to her husband and had a strong sense of right and wrong. She was set against cheating on or leaving James which I initially applauded. So the combination of Holly and Bricker was like two worlds colliding in some aspects.

My only sticking point was the ending. Without getting too specific, everything happened very fast once Holly’s husband James was fully involved in the plot. I liked the outcome of the ending itself as things worked out for all parties involved, but it made James come across as a bit of a jerk in some ways. Thankfully it wasn’t enough to make me dislike the story overall. It was still very charming and had the characters I’ve grown to love in the Argeneau clan.

About a Vampire was a quick read that kept me wondering how things would ever work out for life mates Bricker and Holly. Their shared passion and sense of humor made this a very entertaining paranormal.

Thanks for the review, Michele. I like this author’s historical romance books, but I actually do have a couple of her vamp titles. I haven’t read them yet, but…LOL
