Ali And the Rebel Doc by Emily Forbes: At forty, Ali is fulfilled in her career and has made it to the being Head Of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the busy Sydney Central Hospital. She leads a very disciplined life. She has several close female friends who also have important roles at the hospital. She is still struggling to forgive one of them who recently moved back after many years, after breaking her brother’s heart.

Her calm world is shaken up when a short term, very renown anesthetist named Jake shows up.She is thrown into working with him and at first bristles at some of his attitude. It is hard to be too grumpy towards such a good looking man.

Jake challenges Ali to get out of her comfort zone and try new challenging activities. They end up going on a weekend near where Ali was born and raised to get Ali to feel less nervous about these new efforts.Since Jake is only in Sydney for a short time, can the two have a quick fling and move on?

Ali has a large extended family. I love that once again in this series an author has used a character who is aboriginal. Ali still respects that ancestry with all its customs and folk lore. She is more relatable to me as a middle aged woman who has experience in both her personal and professional life. She has never wanted children which lead to the collapse of her marriage in the past. She gets plenty of time around babies since she’s delivered hundreds and she has lovely nieces and nephews.

Jake’s life has been entirely different. He was an only child and has a less than warm relationship with his parents. His wife became pregnant and then miscarried. Instead of trying to another child, he decided it was a sign to divorce his wife and move on. You can see why he has this need to travel for his job and not settle down.

The setting at the resort was lovely and made me wish I could visit. The suspense included in the plot really made that section even more of a page turner.

This novel is the third in the series. For once, I was able to read this novel not long after #2. I strongly suggest readers start at #1 and work their way though. Each story builds on the previous one and gives a certain amount of preview of the next in line. Looking forward to #4. Once again, I praise how each of the four authors were able to seamlessly weave all these tales together.
