In An Exception to His Rule by Lindsay Armstrong, Damien Wyatt lives by one rule: never more than one night. But when Harriet Livingston arrives in his life-she becomes the one exception to his rule.
Damien Wyatt is looking for someone to catalog his deceased mother’s collectibles but he does not expect he will end up hiring the same woman who crashed into his Aston Martin and broke his collarbone. He is tempted by her stunning beauty-so he steals a kiss and she wipes the smile from his face with a well-delivered slap!
Harriet Livingstone wouldn’t take the job if she weren’t desperate—the last thing she wants is to get involved with the attractive yet arrogant Damien! But keeping their relationship out of the bedroom is becoming a battle neither of them really wants to win.
An Exception to His Rule by Lindsay Armstrong is a romance set up in Australia and tells the story of two equally headstrong individuals who refuse to do each other’s binding. Damien is a playboy who does not believe in settling for any one woman. I liked him because he had a very likable personality and was not a typical alpha male hero. I failed to understand why he would hire someone who just crashed your car and broke your collarbone. Harriet is also a likable enough character because of the way she shoulders responsibility. She is strong, independent and sometimes not so sure of herself. I liked both the main characters and they were a nice foil to each other. The romance is very straightforward and filled with conversations.
The story started off great but lost the steam quickly after first few chapters.. I am not sure if this book is appropriate in the Harlequin Presents section because apart from the location, I did not think it delivered what one usually expects from Presents line. The story was too slow paced for me personally. Some phrases in the story are also difficult to understand.
Overall, An Exception to His Rule by Lindsay Armstrong is a well written romance with likable characters but sadly the negatives out weigh the positives. Lindsay Armstrong is a great writer but this book fell short off the mark.
