REVIEW: Backwoods by Jill Sorenson

Backwoods (Aftershock #4) by Jill Sorenson: Blended families can be complex – but this one goes beyond complicated. Brooke planned a wilderness retreat, an energetic expedition through the High Sierras; initially the trip was supposed to be Brooke, her father, stepmother, and 18528423stepbrother. Abby Hammond makes the decision to tagalong knowing that her ex-husband, Ray, tends to cancel plans with their daughter. Therefore, no one is surprised that when Brooke and Abby arrived at the cabin to only find only Leo, the stepbrother – as anticipated Ray and his wife, Lydia, do cancel. To compound the issue Leo’s father, Nathan Strom, shows up to take part in the excursion.

The relationships in the romantic suspense were very realistic – especially the father/son interactions. This story was light on suspense but has a double dose of romance. This reader is looking forward to more releases from this author. Her attention to detail is astounding.

The more you trust, the more you risk…

When plans for a wilderness retreat with her teenage daughter Brooke go awry, Abby Hammond reluctantly pairs up with Brooke’s stepbrother and his dad, Nathan Strom, for the weeklong trek. The only thing Abby has in common with the bad-boy former pro athlete is that their exes cheated with each other. That…and a visceral attraction that’s growing more complicated with every step through the picturesque woods.

Nathan’s wild-card reputation lost him his career and his family. After years of regret, he’s ready to fight for what truly matters—and that includes Abby’s hard-won trust. When Brooke goes missing, Nathan knows he’s her best and only hope of rescue. But the deeper into the rugged mountains they go, the more dangerous the territory will prove—for their safety and for their hearts.
