Beautiful Crazy by Kasey Lane: If Kevan doesn’t get this band to sign to beautiful-crazyher new marketing firm, she’ll get to add another failure under her belt and her brother will be bounced from rehab. But watch her last ditch attempt to make her dreams come true come under attack when the CEO, Mason, of a powerful marketing firm becomes her competition. Mason looks like he has it all, but if he doesn’t get this new band to sign, a start to freshening up the company, Mason will be fired.

To make it even worse, they just had the best one night stand of both their lives with each other, and it’ll be next to impossible trying to resist one another as they tour alongside the band together. But Mason is intent on having Kevan again. He can’t get her out of his mind, highly unusual for the king of one night stands.

But Kevan won’t get sucked in by another man, especially one in a suit, the antithesis to her tats and pin-up style.

Mason reached up and brushed her hair back again, tangling his fingers in her locks. Instinctively, she rolled her head back into his grasp and stared into his eyes. She could swim in his sultry gaze for days, like a parched nomad during an extended drought. In the desert. And no oasis in sight.

I enjoyed the concept, with the competition of the marketing firms, but overall I found Beautiful Crazy to be just too melodramatic. So much drama and conflict occurred unnecessarily, and the characters were either complaining or way too lustful. Plus, they each felt like such a cliché. Mason the suave one night stander – who for some reason is obsessing over the way too insecure and kind of pathetic Kevan – and Kevan just comes across as the overly woeful mess.

While I can’t say I liked the characters, I did like how the relationship developed – one night stand apart. It wasn’t the immediate love and trust, Mason really needed to put the work into creating a relationship with Kevan, and Kevan had to learn how to trust again. All parts I liked. Plus, they’re tour roommates on a bus. I love the roommate trope, so for any of those fans who want a music-world read I recommend Beautiful Crazy.

This story and the characters were just a little too much for me, so while I liked the plot, I couldn’t love the book.
