In Colton by Blood by Melissa Cutler, Dr. Levi Colton has lived with being branded a bastard and not being wanted or recognized by his own father. He worked hard to be where he is today and he wants nothing to do with the Colton’s especially Jethro Colton, but CBBhis half sister has shown up begging for his help now that his father is dying.

Kate McCord is a pastry chef at the Dead River Ranch, the Colton’s ranch. After the death of her husband and her baby she knows what it’s like to loose those you love and having them taken away unexpectedly. Now all she wants is to survive and not think about the past, and definitely not feel again. But the recent murder has her wanting to find the killer, the person responsible for taking another person she grew to care about away from her.

Levi wants to visit Dead River Ranch and leave as fast as possible, but when he arrives there he realizes that things are not as he perceived them to be.  His father is still a rude and annoying man, but needs his help that as a doctor he vowed to give.
