Deep Cover by Scarlett Cole is the third book in the Love Over Duty series. While it can be read as a standalone, I do recommend reading the other books first. Characters from the previous books make appearances, including an old enemy. Also, things that happened in the previous books are referenced in this one, but they aren’t covered in much detail here.
Ex-Navy SEAL Cabe Moss lost his fiancé to an IED. FBI Agent Amy Murray has just transferred offices because she was being sexually harassed by a superior. Both are forced to work together when Eagle Securities, the FBI, and the CIA join forces to stop a money laundering and human trafficking rings.
While I enjoyed this book, I didn’t love it. I think part of it was that the book jumps between Amy’s and Cabe’s point of views, but there’s no clear distinction as to when it switches. So you can be reading Amy’s point of view, then out of the blue it feels like something else is happening and it makes no sense until you realize that you’re actually now reading Cabe’s point of view. It was frustrating at times and confusing at first until I realized what was happening. I read an advanced copy, so I’m not sure if this is going to be corrected prior to the release. I hope it is though, because it reduced my overall enjoyment of the story.
Both Cabe and Amy were hesitant to get into a relationship but, despite his feeling guilty from moving on from Jess, I felt Cabe was the most open to giving them a chance. When it comes to their relationship, Amy was wishy-washy. At times I wish she would have just made a decision to be with him without stipulations, and that she would stop worrying about what other people would think of her decision to be with Cabe. She spends too much time worrying how others would view their relationship and let it influence her and how she treated it.
I did like both Cabe and Amy. While worried about losing Amy like he lost Jess, Cabe still refuses to get in the way of Amy and her job. Amy is determined and independent–she can definitely take care of herself. She’s even willing to sacrific herself in order to save the missing women she’s searching for.
I enjoyed the suspense. I enjoyed learning more about how a casino works. I could have done a little less with the description of money laundering. That’s probably just because I have to take a class on it every year at work due to the nature of my job. For those unfamiliar with how it works though, you may find that interesting as well. For informational purposes only, of course.
This book would be for readers who enjoy romantic suspense. I’d also recommend it to readers of the series who have been waiting for Cabe to find his HEA.

Sounds great

It was good. I just had a few issues with it that might not bother other people as much as they bothered me.
