REVIEW: Four Weddings & a Fiasco by Catherine Ferguson

Four Weddings & a Fiasco by Catherine Ferguson, Katy Peacock and her sister were doing so well until they had a falling out that fractured the close bond they had. Now, Katy is struggling to make ends meet, especially with her ex breathing down her neck demanding she pay back the money he lent her. But just when she’s finally getting her life back on track by paying off her loan and spending time with a man she’s interested in, her sister returns. Will they be able to repair their relationship, so Katy can finally move on with her life and be happy again?

I glance down. I’m still grasping onto my crotch, casuality of the mean picket fence. I laugh, a bit hysterically if I’m honest, and fold my arms. “Fine, thanks. Just – er – scaling the fence. Always good to keep active.” I nod at his running shorts, hoping to indicate a common interest.
“Active?” His grin is incredulous and I feel myself blush. “I think you might need a bit more practice.“ He indicates the fence. “Unless you want to go around actively maiming pedestrians.”

The plot of this story was very unique, as it started with a prologue illustrating how close Katy and her sister are. Then the middle of the story is told by the heroine’s point-of-view, as she works hard to keep afloat after the falling out with her sister. How is she going to pay off the debt she’s accumulated? What will her ex do if she can’t? Moreover, the heroine goes through a lot in this story with having to deal with the return of her sister and her growing feelings for the gorgeous photographer she has a very interesting introduction to. Nice way to meet a guy by trying to knock him off his feet.

The dialogue was entertaining and intense due to the main characters back stories. Will the heroine ever get herself out of the trouble she finds herself in? Will she be able to forgive her sister? Did she overreact to what her sister did without giving her a chance to explain? Can she convince the hero that she’s nothing like his ex, even though the situation with her debts reminds him of a bad period in his life? However, there were some light-hearted moments between Katy and the hero that made me laugh or smile, especially the moment they met.

“Are you sure you’ve got time?” Surely the great Gabe Harlin must have many demands on his time.
He grins. “Sure. Why wouldn’t I?”
I shrug. “Oh, I don’t know. I suppose I assumed you’d have lots of pressing photography assignments to carry out. Very important meetings to attend. Big celebrities to shoot.” I twist my lips to let him know I’m not entirely serious, and he laughs.
“I’ve met a few celebrities I’d like to shoot, although I’m generally not a violent man.”

I loved both the main characters as well as the secondary ones. Katy’s mom’s friends aren’t afraid to give the heroine advice, especially when she learns the history between the sisters her mom is friends with. Their history is as complicated as that of what is going on between Katy and her sister. Can they convince her to hear her sister’s apology?

As for the heroine, she’s strong, brave and I liked how determined she was to get herself out of trouble, even if she was working herself to the bone. Since, she couldn’t continue to live in fear of what her ex will do. I also liked how loyal she was, and that she would do anything for her mom. Such as when someone prays on her mother’s love for her late husband and she gets herself into a bad situation. But most of all, I liked that Katy found it in her heart to forgive. Besides, it seems she may have gotten what she accused her sister of all wrong.

Overall, this was a really good book encompassing a heartwarming romance, a fast-paced plot where the characters had to overcome some difficult obstacles, and dialogue that kept me entertained from start to finish. The way this story ended was wonderful, as Katy’s sister definitely redeemed herself. Then there was the hero and heroine’s friends that wanted a happy ever after for the pair and would do anything to make it happen, even if they had to trick the pair into turning up. I would recommend Four Weddings and a Fiasco by Catherine Ferguson, if you enjoy a story about finding forgiveness and discovering the love of a lifetime.
