Freeing the Wild by Paisley Hope: After a career defining tragedy shatters everything she thought she wanted, country-music star Cassie
decides to disappears from the spotlight, retreating to a quiet Kentucky ranch to spend some time with her sister while she searches of peace, privacy…and herself. The country retreat and silence was meant to be temporary just long enough to breathe again, Cassie definitely did not expect Haden Westbrook to walk right into her life with his soft charm and fierce loyalty to the broken horses he rehabilitates.
While they could not be more different from each other, with Haden living far from the chaos that Cassie used to thrive in, but something just clicks when they are together. With their first encounter being brief, electric and completely unforgettable, on paper these two should not work but fate seems to have other plans for them when they are placed side by side on the same ranch, walking away becomes impossible. As Cassie faces the trauma she has spent months outrunning and Haden learns that loving her means giving her space to heal, something rare begins to grow between them something quiet, steady and powerful. But when the world Cassie left behind comes calling, she must decide whether she’s brave enough to choose a life she never planned… and a love that could change everything…
I have come to really love following the Sliver Pines Ranch series and Cassie and Haden’s book was no different. Freeing the Wild was the kind of story that settles in slowly and then wraps itself around you when you least expect it. It was tender, emotionally grounded and quietly powerful and I loved every single moment as we got to see Haden and Cassie healing, connection and finding their way to a beautiful love story. Hope did a great job in balancing vulnerability and romance, delivering a love story that isn’t about being rescued but about finding the courage to stand still and heal.
These two were just adorable, they both felt real, relatable and completely loveable. When it came to Cassie there was a vulnerability that made her struggles with trauma, anxiety and guilt feel honest rather than put on. I loved that her journey wasn’t about reclaiming fame but about learning how to breathe again. We get to see her learning how to just be herself without the pressures of Hollywood. Getting to follow Cassie as she realised that it is okay to just be, to take up space without fear and how to forgive herself really made me connect with her character. Haden on the other hand was the steady quiet, compassionate and grounded hero with a heart of gold. I just loved getting to see the work he does rehabilitating rescue horses and the pure compassion and connection that he forms with them. Though what I really liked about Haden was that he wasn’t this overbearing guy that tired to fix Cassie, instead he showed her the quiet support that she truly needed.
With the country setting and the more relaxed pace of life, it was super easy to get lost in the build up between Cassie and Haden. These two had a quiet connection that was built on trust that was not forced or rushed from any unnecessary drama. I loved the fact that Haden never tries to rescue Cassie or rush her healing, instead we get to see him listen, support and show up consistently. Cassie in turn allows herself to be seen not as the star the world expects but as a woman learning how to live with her scars. Together, they grow not because one fixes the other but because they meet each other where they are which in my opinion makes their love story feel just that much more emotionally satisfying.
All in all I have to day that I found myself once again loving my time in Silver Pines and getting to follow Cassie and Haden finding their way to happily ever after. If you love small-town romances filled with healing, slow-burn chemistry and characters you can’t help but root for then this book is absolutely worth picking up!
