His Cinderella Next Door by Cara Colter: Molly and Oscar have been best friends since kindergarten, when she gave him the nickname of Truck. She led an interesting life with her widowed stuntman father and became a fearless tomboy. Oscar had always accepted her as she was, funky clothes and all and she accepted his nerdy style.

All was well until a kiss that was powerful changed their idea of friendship. Out of a sort of fear, Molly left and has spent the last six years doing wildlife photography, moving around and still being totally fearless. Oscar and Molly have still kept in touch, but not on the former best friends level. When Oscar sends her a text to come visit to do a memorial for his brother Ralphie, Molly is a little scared , but loved the disabled Ralphie and needs to do what’s right.

It is hard to be just friends with someone of the opposite sex. It’s hard to let anyone see you “warts and all” and even harder to find a friend like that. The author includes humor and poignancy in this sweet tale of love and friendship. It is refreshing to see a woman who isn’t afraid to be herself when it is different from what society expects. Oscar is such a sweet, caring person and exemplifies that a nerd can be very successful. Our world would be much different if those who were considered geeks and nerds didn’t rise above labels placed on them.

This love story is one of a slow boil and change in the two main characters who can believe that sometimes best friends make for long term relationships. I hope to read more books in the future by this charming author who lifted my spirits and touched my heartstrings.
