Lies by Aleatha Romig: Araneae is now trying to make sense of a life and a past she doesn’t understand. She has many questions, few answers, and a complicated relationship with the overwhelming Sterling Sparrow. Sterling is one of the most powerful men in Chicago, both as a wealthy businessman and as the king of the underground. Their chemistry is intense as both have to adjust to their new reality.

Lies continues their story where Secrets ended. Araneae is determined to keep her business while still untangling the web of lies around her past, her parents, and ultimately how she ended up here. She’s no shrinking violet and she challenges Sterling in a way that he’s very unused to. She asserts her independence, demands respect, and questions him when others would simply follow his commands.

Sterling made his statement with Araneae and now has to deal with the unintended consequences. Sterling has always been protective of what is his, and Araneae definitely brings out the protective streak in him. He has to adjust to the reality of Araneae, which is much different from his expectations.

“I believe I’ve mentioned that you’re mine.”
My eyes narrowed. “I seem to recall hearing that a time or two.” I shrugged. “For the record, your saying it doesn’t make it true.”

Araneae’s world expands with surprising connections to both her past and present and we get a better idea of what Sterling’s underground operation is like. New questions are raised, other questions re-surface, and surprises are in store as parts of the past begin to unfold. Araneae and Sterling grow closer in many ways. They have a complicated relationship with many ups and downs as they continue getting to know each other.

“That information is shared on a need-to-know basis, and I don’t believe you, Sterling, need to know.”
“That’s where you’re mistaken. I need to know because remember you’re mine, and as mine, I am entitled to know everything about you.”
“You’re saying that this information wasn’t something that came up in all of your spying?”

Lies is darkly erotic and suspenseful. The Web of Sin series is definitely meant to be read in order. Aleatha Romig crafted an intriguing story with many twists and turns and unexpected connections as the pieces start to slowly fall into place. Ms. Romig continues to develop complex and complicated characters with strong personalties. Fans of Pepper Winters and CD Reiss will enjoy Lies.

The twisted and intriguing storytelling that you loved in Consequences and Infidelity continues with an all-new alpha anti-hero in the dark romance series Web of Sin, by New York Times bestselling author Aleatha Romig.

I am…

That’s no longer an easy statement.

Who am I?

Since Sterling Sparrow, a man so handsome he takes my breath away and so infuriating he pushes me in ways I’ve never known, came barreling into my life like a category five hurricane, I can’t even finish that simple statement.

In twenty-six years I’ve lived three lives—been three different people.

Renee. Kennedy. And now, Araneae.

They say that I was named after the spider to make me resilient.

Sparrow would then be a bird.

Birds eat spiders.

I prefer to consider myself a cat. It ups my chance of surviving the world I’m now living.

Maybe that’s only wishful thinking because according to Sterling, my number of lives is running out.

There are people who want to harm me, to learn the secrets they claim that I possess.

The only person to offer me protection is Sterling Sparrow.

Can I trust a man who willingly put me in the sight of danger?

What is real?

What are lies?

Have you been Aleatha’d?

Lies is book two of the Web of Sin trilogy to be read after Secrets.
