In Love Game (Love Games #1) by Maggie Wells, Kate Snyder works hard to make sure she’s the best coach she can be. It’s not enough that she’s won plenty of titles with the teams she’s played with, but now she’s winning titles as a coach too. But when Wolcott University get a new coach; a male coach that has seen hard times due to a scandal, Kate isn’t about to make things easy for him. Will Danny McMillan be able to win her over, or will their chance at happy ever after never happen?

”It would be awkward. And probably against some rule.” She added the last as an afterthought, then promptly brushed it away. “But you might want to hold off on doing anything with Davenport too. I have a deal brewing with one of the local affliates for you and Coach McYummy, and it might involve our old pal Jim.”
“Are you telling me I’m about to get cockblocked by the evening news?”
“God, I love it when you talk dirty.”
“Sleep with him, don’t sleep with him,” Kate muttered, her sights on the Italian restaurant that anchored the food court.
“To be or not to be,” Millie intoned gravely.

This is the second book I’ve read by Ms. Wells, and I’ve got to say that she’s a very entertaining author, especially when it comes to this first story of her new Love Games series. Certainly, the main characters were incredible and together with the secondary characters make this story fun, extremely engaging and enthralling from start to finish, as Kate and Danny go from enemies to lovers and overcome some tough obstacles to be together. The way this story started had me liking the heroine immediately, as she’s come so far in her sporting career and her coaching career, and her life is about to get a shake up because of the hero becoming one of the University’s coaches. Will the hero steal her spotlight?

As for the dialogue, it was highly entertaining and I loved the playful banter between the main characters, which increases the sexual tension between Danny and Kate and make things more explosive once things go from platonic to physical intimacy. Moreover, the heroine is resilient and courageous by overcoming what happened to her to become the successful coach she is. I also liked how she challenged the hero and fought for their relationship when everything started to go awry. While the hero, he’s been through so much because of what happened at the last place he coached and then everything that went on between he and his brother. Will they ever be able to repair their relationship? I also liked how confident he was when it came to his new coaching position and his persistence when it came to the heroine because she’s different to any woman he’s ever been with. No way will he give up on them without seriously considering the offer she makes him that could save them both when it comes to their future together and their careers.

”You know I’ve had this knee scoped three times, right? You’re going to have to seal the deal, or we’ll need a winch to get me back on my feet.”
She pulled a face. “Maybe I should look for a model in better condition.”
“Like you have any room to talk.”
“True,” she conceded.
“Take me as I am?”

Overall, Ms. Wells has delivered a splendid and worthwhile read in this book where the chemistry was riveting and had me reading quickly, determined to discover how long it would take these two to become lovers; and the ending took me by surprise by what the heroine does to ensure her and the hero’s future is secured. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up perfectly due to the surprise the hero and heroine receive from the secondary characters; a surprise that they will treasure forever. I would recommend Love Game by Maggie Wells, if you enjoy the enemy to lovers trope or books by authors Lexi Ryan, Lily Kate, Alice Ward and Heatherly Bell.
