Love & Rockets by Maggie Wells: Jake and Darla both come from Love-Rocketswealthy families, but their lives took very different paths. Jake followed his love of science and gained multiple advanced degrees before returning home. Jake is incredibly smart, sexy, and one of the most sought after bachelors in the area. He is quite sick of his mom’s attempts to help him find a woman and settle down. Darla ended unexpectedly pregnant. She lost her friends and family when she decided to keep her precious daughter. Darla is a dedicated mom who tries to give her daughter the best she can while working as a waitress.

While they know of each other and Jake is a frequent diner where Darla works, they don’t really know each other. Things begin to change when they have an unexpected encounter involving her daughter, Grace. Jake is instantly charmed by the intelligent and inquisitive Grace when they bond over Pluto.

“Nothing fancy. I’ll make dinner and you two can form your own save the midget planets society.”
“Dwarf planets,” he corrected, as she knew he would. “And they’re not endangered.”
“I know. They don’t get the respect they deserve,” she replied gravely. “Think about it. I’ll put your order in.”

Darla isn’t immune to the sexy nerd appeal of Jake, but her focus is entirely on her daughter and helping her get into space camp. Jake has been aware of Darla for quite some time, but he refused to make a move on the prickly and standoffish waitress. She knows that they now inhabit very different worlds, but her walls begin to come down when Jake starts working with Grace on her space project. They have great chemistry and they challenge each other.

“I need things to be clear between us.”
“Clear?” He barked a laugh and turned his face to his hands once more. “Clear as a friggin’ nebula.”
She grinned, his lapse into geek speak putting her more at ease. “I’ll pretend that means something good and blow right past.”
“Please do.”

Love & Rockets is sweet, charming, and entertaining. Maggie Wells weaved in great banter and featured strong friendships. Ms. Wells provided great secondary characters who you would like to revisit in this series. Fans of Kimberly Lang and Kendra Leigh Castle will enjoy Love & Rockets.

Smart is the new sexy…

They say if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen, but it’s not the sauce at The Pit BBQ that has Darla Kennet breaking a sweat. The sassy single mom has waited tables in Mobile for years to support herself and her daughter, Grace, and she’s never let anything get her rattled…until now. Somehow, handsome aerospace engineer Jake Dalton has gotten under her skin.

Although they went to school together, Jake doesn’t remember much about Darla. Back then the brainiac future rocket scientist always had his head in a book. But now that a chance meeting has him helping Grace apply to space camp, he’s been pulled into Darla’s orbit. And it isn’t long before Jake and Darla have a heated meeting of their own celestial bodies. The trouble is, Jake wants more. Convincing cautious, fiercely independent Darla to trust him with her heart just may be his most challenging mission yet…
