In Marrying the Cowboy by Trish Milburn, Elissa Mason has been dodging her aunt Verona’s matchmaking by throwing everyone she can in her way. She even managed to put her best friends in the way before her aunt could set her sights on her. But now Verona is determined that it is time for Elissa to be married and have her own happiness. But Elissa considers herself wedded to the family nursery and its success is all she cares about.

MTCUntil one unfortunate night a devastating tornado hits her hometown. When she awoke in the middle of the night all she wanted was to get to the shed with her aunt Verona before the tornado hit, but once she realized that they would not have enough time to get there, they went to hide inside a closet and tried to protect themselves. Now that the tornado has passed, they were lucky that only an uprooted tree was embedded through the window in their living room. Unlike her best friend and neighbor, Sheriff Pete Kayne who’s house was completely taken by the tornado.

Nothing could describe the fear that Elissa felt when she saw the house was gone and afraid that Pete may not have made it, until she heard him trapped in the shed, which was being covered by his old washing machine. Not only that, his patrol car was upside down on her lawn.

Pete has had a lot of losses in his life, his entire family is gone and now every memory he had of them is also gone. He plans to do his job and help as much as he can, but when it’s time to go home, he has no home to go to now. So when Verona offers him their guest room, he is a little reluctant to accept, but she can certainly be persistent.

Now Pete and Elissa will be roommates, separated by only a wall. And the friendship they always shared is about to change. For living under the same roof and sharing so much time together will bring out feeling that are deeper than either of them may be willing to share, especially Elissa.

But unless Elissa can make up her mind and prove to Pete that she loves him, their love may be lost due to her indecision and her dreams of independency. For Pete may be willing to do many thing for her, but he will not force himself on her if she does not want him.

This was a really fun and entertaining read. I loved that Verona was the same as always, tricky but with the best heart and intentions underneath it all. Friends-to-lovers is one of my favorite tropes, and the way that these best friends feelings grew and became more was just great. I also loved how the community banded together to help those that were the most affected by the tornado and hurt for the few that were lost. I hope that there will be more of Blue Falls, Texas series, and more of Verona’s matchmaking, but if not, I can honestly say that I am happy with all the books in this series.

If you like a sweet and heartwarming read, don’t miss Marrying the Cowboy by Trish Milburn.
