Montana-RescueMontana Rescue by Kim Law finds champion bull rider Nick Wilde contemplating what he wants to do with his life. His agent is pressuring him to join the PBR, but his heart isn’t in it. When he runs into his friend Jewel’s older sister, Harper Stone, the crush he had on her when he was younger comes back full force. But this Harper isn’t the same Harper he knew back then.

Harper has been struggling since her husband’s death eighteen months earlier. She believes he was her one love and carries around the guilt of his death, believing she was responsible for it. She’s become reckless, seemingly not caring for her own safety, and Nick calls her out on it.

Her walls may have been thick, but that didn’t keep him from seeing straight through them to know that she was hurting. And that that was the basis for her recklessness.
He gentled his voice. “You’re too risky, Harper. And I’m certain it comes from the loss you experienced a year and a half ago.”
“You know nothing about my loss.”
“Then tell me about it.”

Both Harper and Nick are harboring secrets about their pasts. Harper doesn’t share what really happened the day Thomas died and the following the accident with her family, and Nick doesn’t talk about what happened in his own family in regards to his mother. With each other they find the strength and courage to reveal their secrets to one another.

Friends or not, though, what he couldn’t figure out was why he’d tossed out the idea that he could use someone to share secrets with.

This can be read as a standalone. I haven’t read the first book in the series, Montana Cherries, which is about Nick’s sister, Dani, but there was no issue following along with the characters and the storyline. Dani does make brief appearances in this book, as do the rest of the Wilde siblings, and I look forward to reading the rest of their stories.

I’ve read other books by Kim Law and tend to enjoy them, and this was no exception. Montana Rescue is about forgiving yourself, making peace with the past, and discovering there can be second chances when it comes to love. The characters are well-written and real, and I recommend giving this book a read.

4S August 23, 2016 | Montlake Romance | The Wildes of Birch Bay #2

Championship bull rider Nick Wilde is the face of Montana Pro Rodeo, with all the acclaim and fans he can handle. But is that enough? Contemplating his next career move, he’s come home to his family’s cherry orchard—and to his childhood crush, helicopter pilot Harper Stone. But Harper’s not quite the sexy, badass girl he once lusted after. Recently widowed, she’s broken in two. Wanting to help her move on, Nick finds himself aching for the kind of stability he never had as a child.

True love comes once if you’re lucky, and Harper already had her shot. An accident took her husband eighteen months ago and left only pain and guilt in his place. Now Nick is waking up her body and heart to everything she might still have to gain…or lose. A second chance is more than she thinks she deserves. But with a man like Nick doing the persuading, maybe it’s time to try.
