Mountain Mistletoe Christmas by Patricia Johns is the second book in this author’s Second Chance Club series.
Jen Taylor passed by this mansion many times in her youth growing up in Mountain Springs, Colorado. Now this mansion is all hers, hers to fulfill her dream of opening an art gallery. All it took to fulfill this dream was the divorce settlement she received after her marriage of fourteen years ended. Her ex-husband Samuel has Tiffany now, his new girlfriend and as it turned out Tiffany is the reason she is getting to spend Christmas with her twelve-year-old son Drew. It wasn’t her turn to have Drew with her for Christmas but Samuel’s girlfriend made the last minute decision to take just the two of them to her family’s Christmas celebration. That’s fine with Jen. She is very happy to have Drew with her for Christmas. The remodeling she planned for Drew’s return after Christmas wasn’t completed but Nick Bryant, her contractor had most of it done. Actually Nick wasn’t just her contractor, she was falling for him. She just needed the confidence to believe things would work out.
Divorced father Nick Bryant knew all about being a divorced parent and the pitfalls that entailed. He didn’t think he had done such a great job with his now twenty-three-year old daughter Amelia. He was happy she planned to spend Christmas with him. The visit wasn’t going that well though. Amelia is a pre-law student at Harvard University and has everything she always wanted from her rich stepfather. Nick feels Amelia looks down on him as somewhat beneath her. Just like her mother. Good thing he has Jen Taylor to talk things over with and get her advice. He tried to keep things professional when he first began the remodel job in her mansion but he keeps falling more and more in love with her every day. He intends to work hard to convince Jen they belong together.
This is a well-written book. The characters are well-developed. The two main character, Jen and Nick are both very insecure. They needed to boost each other a lot. This didn’t play out well for me as a Christmas romance. I like my Christmas stories to be bright and uplifting. I didn’t feel this way while reading this book.

Can the magic of the season…
Bring opposites together?
Don’t change for a relationship. That’s contractor Nick Bryant’s motto. But when single mom Jen Taylor hires him to renovate her old mansion, he wants to impress her. Nick knows Jen’s focus is her son, and she’ll never want a man who wields a hammer instead of a Harvard degree. But as they prepare her home for Christmas, he can’t help wishing for a moment under the mistletoe!
