My Lucky #13 Piper Rayneis the first book in the new swoon-worthy Hockey Hotties series. It is preceded by the novella Countdown to a Kiss which I have not read yet, but I had no problem following the story. This author duo are amazing writers, and every book seems to get better and better. This book captured my interest from the beginning, and I could not put it down. It was fast-paced, easy to read, and left me wanting more when I finished.

Aiden is the center and captain of the Florida Fury hockey team. His winning streak has plummeted, and he is afraid he will be traded to another team. When they finally win a game, his teammates convince him that whatever he has done differently since New Year had turned his game around and he needed to keep repeating it. Which meant he had to find the woman who threw a glass of wine in his face and convince her to continue doing it before every game to keep the winning streak going. He had always been focused on his career and just thought he would worry about his personal life after he retires from hockey. Since Saige was dating Joran, his friend, he could not act on the attraction he felt for her.
Saige was a social media manager, and she made a rule not to date athletes after her heart was broken by an ex-boyfriend, a football player. She loses one of her high-profile clients and needs to find another one soon. Aiden offers to hire her if she will travel with him and give him good luck. Aiden makes her want to break her rule, but can she trust him with her heart?

If you like hockey romances, this is a must-read! It is full of humor, snarky friends, and wonderful characters. The chemistry between the two could be felt instantly. Aiden and Saige both were reluctant to enter into a relationship. Saige had been hurt in the past and Aiden needed to focus on his career. Aiden had a big heart and even though he knew he could not have Saige; he still wanted her friendship. I really enjoyed meeting the rest of the team and cannot wait to read their stories. The authors set the stage for the next book which leaves us anxiously waiting.

Lucky.

The one adjective used to describe my entire hockey career. I prefer to call it hard work, at least I did until my game went to complete crap. I haven’t scored in eight games and my team owner is talking about trading me.

I’ve never believed in superstitions. Never needed one. I suppose I was “lucky” in that way. But now the best way to refer to me is desperate. I’d wear the same socks for an entire year just to be the high-scoring center I used to be.

Imagine my surprise when after spending New Year’s Eve with a woman, I score a hat trick in the next game—that’s three goals in one game for you non-hockey lovers. Now, I have to track her down and bribe her to do it again before every game. Get your mind out of the gutter, I’m not talking about it.

I find her and when I get to know her better, I end up spending more time thinking about her than my game, but she’s made it clear she wants no part of me. She’s going to learn that I didn’t become a professional hockey player without having to fight for what I want.
