Need You For Keeps is the sixth book in the St. Helena’s Vineyard series by Marina Adair. This is one of my favorite contemporary romance series and I am so glad it did not end when all of the Deluca siblings had happily fallen in love. If you are new to the series, this is a great “middle place” to begin. (Although I do recommend you going back and reading from the beginning.)
While Need You For Keeps is a continuation of the series, it also begins its own branch by focusing on the heroes of the small town of St. Helena, California. First up is Jonah, the deputy sheriff. I love a sexy cop hero and Jonah was one of my favorites. He was a definite Alpha male with a tender streak that heroine Shay brought out of him…much to his surprise and chagrin. Theirs is a classic opposites attract love story with a good dose of humor, a little bit of angst, and the crazy small town antics the series is known for.
I am usually skeptical when a female character is called a “free spirit” because it tends to mean that she makes stupid choices and they are explained away because she is a free spirit. But Shay’s passion and caring for her rescue animals made me really like her character. And she was perfect for Jonah. Their love story played out at the perfect pace and I stayed up all night reading because I couldn’t wait for them to get their happy ending! (I also wanted to see some other characters get what was come to them, as well!) I can’t wait for this series to continue. Jonah has brothers and Shay has friends and I already think I know who is going to end up together.
When it comes to caring for the furry residents of St. Helena, California, groomer and pet rescuer Shay Michaels can handle anything. Humans are another story, though especially Deputy Jonah Baudouin. He’s the town’s resident superhero: upright, uptight, and jaw-droppingly gorgeous, even when he’s investigating complaints about Shay’s beloved foster animals. And that spells danger for Shay, a free spirit who can’t risk trusting the wrong person again.
Jonah and Shay have been circling each other ever since she came to town, and he’s running out of reasons to “not” kiss her senseless. But this deputy is a straight shooter with his eye on the sheriff’s badge. He can’t afford to get involved with Shay, a chaos magnet with luscious curves who’s liable to turn his career and his life upside down. He enforces laws. She breaks them repeatedly. Keeping her out of trouble is becoming a full-time job and it’s one he hopes is never going to end.
