REVIEW: Part of His Royal World by Nina Singh

In Part of His Royal World by Nina Singh, when Arielle rescues a man from the ocean, the last thing she expects is for him to be a prince. Or to lose her job at a resort because of her heroic actions. When Prince Riko realizes this, he arranges a job for Arielle as the nanny for his twin brother’s children.

While spending time with the family, Arielle comes to care for Eriko, but his father, the king, has plans for Riko to marry another woman in a political merger. And Arielle has dreams of becoming a singer, not a princess. Will Riko be able to come up with a solution to appease everyone before Arielle walks away?

The book grabs the reader’s attention with the dramatic water rescue, but then it falters a little. There’s a lot of Riko and Arielle getting to know each other, and Arielle getting to know his family. The woman Riko is pledged to is mentioned, but only appears briefly. Overall, there’s very little drama in the book. I found it to be a sweet story, but it also felt like it dragged on a little bit.

The characters are well written and enjoyable. Readers will feel for Riko and his struggle between following his heart and doing what his parents want. Readers will also sympathize with Arielle, whose family doesn’t support her dreams of becoming a singer. They both find the support they’re looking for in each other and build up a good friendship.

If you enjoy stories with little angst, this may be a book for you. The time it takes for an actual romance to develop was a little too drawn out for my tastes, but, ultimately, it was worth the journey.
