In Single in Sitka (Odds-Are-Good #1) by Katy Regnery, Being a journalist means having to think on your feet quite often but even Amanda McKendrick is surprised by the story idea she blurts out in a meeting. One that will take her to Sitka, Alaska. And up-close-and-personal with bears. Kind of a silly thing for a woman from Seattle to research, but she’s committed to the project before she can even blink. One positive side note is it gives Amanda a chance to check out Luke, the hottie in the personal ad she saw in Odds Are Good. The state trooper, single dad of three turns out way more sexy than she imagined. Perfect for a fling. But Amanda’s feelings get involved and pretty soon she’s trying to figure out a way they can be together long-term.

‘He’s my rebound guy, right? I can use this time with him to figure out what I want next, and that will give our time together purpose and meaning outside of gratuitous sexual satisfaction.’

Widower Luke Kingston loves his sister to pieces but when he finds out she’s put a personal ad in the paper for him, trying to push him into dating…he could throttle her. He’s not entirely sure he’s ready to move on after losing his wife a couple of years ago. Luke isn’t sure his kids are ready for him to date someone either. But then he meets Amanda. She changes everything for him, bringing laughter–and lust–into his somewhat lonely existence. Their attraction is intense and electric. And Luke tries telling himself to keep things casual where Amanda’s time in Sitka is limited, meaning their stolen moments together have an expiration date. He can’t help but wonder if they tried for something more, is there a way they could make it work?

‘This woman. This woman isn’t just my miracle; she’s my answer, my future, and my forever.’

A single dad romance with tons of steamy, sexy goodness and plenty of laughs–plus a few happy tears–Single in Sitka takes readers on a wild ride from Seattle to Alaska and back again.

‘But I know–in the deepest places of my heart–that this man is special. We found our way to each other. We’ll figure out a way forward as well.’

I’m fairly new to Katy Regnery’s work so I can’t really compare this to her other books, but holy cow did I have a crazy good time reading this romance. With a fun premise and a very contemporary feel to the characters and their situation, I fell quickly and completely for Luke and Amanda (and Amanda’s BFFs Leigh & Jude!) right at the start. Told from both our hero and heroine’s POVs, Regnery showed every step of their casual-fling-turned-serious-relationship in a totally convincing way, all while making me laugh out loud with Amanda’s feistyness and Luke’s adorably baffled moments.

Talk about endearing. Luke and Amanda seemed so real and their longing to be in a solid relationship in the future just melted my heart. Regnery knew what she was doing by making Luke not only a loving, incredibly hands-on, caring single dad to three great kids, but she made him an Alaskan State Trooper. Seriously…how can you not fall for him? And Amanda gave female reporters a good name, with her intelligence, quirky-cute ways, and her compassion for others. Luke and Amanda together? Smoldering hot. Their love scenes were frequent and super sexy to the point of being fairly explicit, but there were still true emotions shining through.

I feel like I should mention that even though the story flowed well and I had a good time while I breezed through this book, I did find myself putting it down several times. I couldn’t put my finger on why: if it was the frequency of the love scenes, or if I wasn’t connecting with the character at that moment, or if it was just me being *squirrel* as I sometimes have a tendency to do. (lol!) But it happened enough to make me question it.

Single in Sitka was a wonderfully upbeat romance with a delightful cast of characters that will charm you thoroughly. With such a solid start to the Odds-Are-Good series, I can only imagine what Katy Regnery will have for us next.
