In Sneaking Candy by Lisa Burstein, Candice is doing a MFA in creative writing from University of Miami. She wants to become a successful ‘serious author’ and to achieve her dream she needs to get into a PhD program with a recommendation from her faculty advisor, New York
Times bestselling author and National Book Award nominee Professor Dylan. But her dreams could be in jeopardy if her secret identity: as Candy Sloane, self-published erotic romance writer gets out.

SCErotic Romance is not considered a serious subject in the English Department and Professor hates anyone who is involved  with the same. So Candice has every reason to keep her alter ego a secret but then James walker, super-hot local barista and her student enters into her life. By all standards student teacher relationship are totally off-limits but Candice can’t stop herself from sneaking around with James and slowly letting Candy take over the reigns of her forbidden romance. But when the sugar high fades, can her secrets stay under wraps?

“You know the book Fifty Shades of Grey?” I asked.
“Yeah,” he said, his voice confused. “Wait,” he added,
like something had clicked. He jerked his head back. “Don’t
tell me you’re a dominatrix?”
I waited a beat, trying to think of the right words.
“Actually,” he said, his voice low, “tell me you are.” He
reached for me.

Sneaking Candy by Lisa Burstein was a fun read and a page turner from start. It had everything which makes a story interesting and has you involved in the story. The plot about a grad student moonlighting as an erotic romance writer was new and exciting to read. Candy was the star of the story for me because she was so much fun and her attitude towards everything just won me over. She had flaws and that made her even more relatable. James was super hot and so very modest about his achievements. There is nothing much to say about him because he was the standard hero material and had all the usual hero like qualities. The romance was steamy and by steamy I mean super hot steamy. The best thing was that this book is not just about the romance and secret identity, it is so much more than.

“We’re having a drink at the Regent tomorrow if you
want to stalk us there, too,” I said as I stormed out of the
English department. I knew it sounded egotistical, but what
was happening between Professor Dylan and I wasn’t about
that anymore.
The only thing we had between us now was a fight for
literary dominance, and even if I couldn’t admit it to him yet,
Candy didn’t like being on the bottom.

Overall, Sneaking Candy by Lisa Burstein is a fun story with a lovable heroine and an interesting story which keeps you hooked throughout.

All I ever wanted was to make a name for myself as Candice Salinas, creative writing grad student at the University of Miami. Of course, secretly I already have made a name for myself: as Candy Sloane, self-published erotic romance writer. Though thrilled that my books are selling and I have actual fans, if anyone at UM found out, I could lose my scholarship…and the respect of my faculty advisor, grade-A-asshole Professor Dylan.

Enter James Walker, super-hot local barista and—surprise!—my student. Even though I know a relationship is totally off-limits, I can’t stop myself from sneaking around with James, taking a few cues from my own erotic writing…if you catch my drift. Candy’s showing her stripes for the first time in my real life, and I’ve never had so much fun. But when the sugar high fades, can my secrets stay under wraps?
