In The Empire (Filthy Trilogy #3) by Lisa Renee Jones, Secrets and lies are threatening to tear apart the newfound relationship between Eric and Harper before they even have a chance to enjoy their fierce connection at all. But that’s what happens when you come from a family like the Kingstons. Nothing is as it seems. And you certainly never know who to trust. All Harper and Eric can count on is that they will be told false information and have even more enemies after them if they try to believe a word they’re told.

‘I know this family will drag me to hell if I let them, and I’d go there, just to end them if it weren’t for Harper. She’s the game changer.’

When the attacks against Eric and Harper become more personal and come with cryptic messages for them both, they pool their knowledge and resources together to fight back against the unknown forces. Along with Walker Security and some key friends, Eric and Harper know they’ll have to stand together to win. As their love for each other deepens and points towards a promising future between them, they’ll have to lay it all on the line to stay alive and fulfill those dreams.

My hand settles on his cheek. “I will never believe you’re like them. I will never see them when I look at you. And unlike everyone else in your life, I won’t leave.”

Holy plot twists! The Empire was the unbelievably exciting finale in the Filthy Trilogy, which finally answered all the questions we’ve been grappling with since book one. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint, especially with the many revelations Lisa Renee Jones tossed our way.

‘I feel as if we’re headed to war. Are we? Is this where we reach our conclusion? Is this where the truth explodes and destroys anyone it can in its path?’

Lisa Renee Jones is known for writing super smexy–I’m talking smoking hot!–romance that pairs up nicely with thrilling suspense and drama. The Filthy Trilogy definitely fit the bill. Adult step-siblings (who never lived in the same house and didn’t become “family” until they were well into adulthood) Eric and Harper were back in the same holding pattern here, waiting to flush out their enemies so they could take the bad guys down. Whether it turned out to be family members or unknowns. Now, there were times when it seemed like we were still rehashing the same trust issues Harper and Eric have faced down already, and some scenes were a bit lengthy. However, it didn’t detract from the story enough for me to be overly bothered about it. It just might be something readers notice as they go.

It felt like Eric and Harper became more of a solid team in this final installment. And I loved watching them learn more about each other while working on not only their common problem but also with becoming a true couple. That intense chemistry was still there and if anything, grew even more. I liked that even though Harper and Eric had to learn some hard truths about the people in their lives, they were at the point where they could deal with it and move forward in a positive manner. Harper still showed her back bone of steel, while having a caring, very giving side I adored. And Eric was the savant we’ve come to love, who protects the ones he cares for with everything he has. *sigh*

Huge family drama. Sexy, passionate romance. Danger and deceit. The Empire kept me on my toes from page one and didn’t let go until the final paragraph when our couple finally–FINALLY–got their well-deserved HEA.
