REVIEW: The Husband She Can’t Forget by Patricia Forsythe

The Husband She Can’t Forget by Patricia Forsythe: Having “visited” the town of Reston, Oklahoma, in a previous book in this series, I enjoyed “meeting” the characters of Carly, Gemma, Nathan, Lisa, Tom and Frances again, and this time, exploring Carly’s story.

“The Husband She Can’t Forget” tells the story of Carly and Luke, who shared a short marriage 12 years ago that came to a sad ending. Carly and Luke encounter each other again when Luke returns to Reston to start an oil extraction operation next door to her- and this angers her as she has worked hard to make her organic garden and produce business prosperous. As hard as Carly tries to avoid Luke, they are frequently thrown together at town gatherings, and particularly when they both try to help a young runaway boy taken in by his grandmother. Dustin’s grandmother becomes very sick and requires hospitalization, and Carly steps up to the plate to take him in. Luke tries to be a male role model for Dustin.

This is a beautiful story of love rekindled, and of two people trying to find a way to trust each other again. It is also a beautiful story about how a small town community comes together and serves as an extended family.

In the past twelve years, Carly Joslin has made a new life for herself. She moved back home to Reston, Oklahoma, and started a successful organic-farming business. So she’s not about to let her ex-husband, Luke Sanderson, take all that away.

Luke’s oil-extraction operation right next door to Carly is a real threat to her livelihood and her peace of mind. Carly had buried the bittersweet memories of their young love, whirlwind marriage and terrible loss. But not deep enough. And now Luke is back in town, unearthing the past and shaking the very foundations of the life she’s built.
