The Wild Card by Stephanie Archer: Jordan has always been fiercely independent, smart and just a little unpredictable. But when she’s pulled into the world of the Vancouver Storm hockey team to help save the franchise from being sold, she realizes that her usual confidence might not be enough… Between the high-stakes games, demanding owners and a team of personalities that could rival any locker room drama, Jordan has her work cut out for her…especially when she crosses paths with Tate Ward. Tate is the team’s dedicated coach, a single dad and a man who carefully balances his love for the game with the needs of his daughter. As forced proximity and shared challenges throw them together, sparks fly, tensions rise and both Jordan and Tate are forced to confront what it truly means to trust, love and let someone in….

The Wild Card was a delightful and heartfelt conclusion to the Vancouver Storm series that balances slow-burn romance, humour and emotional depth with effortless charm. From the moment Jordan steps into the whirlwind world of the Vancouver Storm hockey team, it was clear this story was as much about personal growth and family as it was about romance. Archer masterfully weaves together the complexities of trust, love and second chances creating characters that felt real, relatable and impossible not to root for.

Jordan was everything you could want in a heroine, she was smart, independent and fearless, but with just enough vulnerability to make her relatable. She was fiercely protective of her independence, yet still allowed her heart to be wide open in unexpected ways, especially when she’s faced with challenges that force her to step out of her comfort zone. Watching her navigate the chaos of the Vancouver Storm team while staying true to herself only made me love her character all the more. Tate on the other hand was the perfect mix of warmth, patience and quiet strength. As a devoted single dad and coach he carried responsibility with grace but it was his guarded heart that made his slow-burning romance with Jordan all the more satisfying and binge worthy to read. I couldn’t help but find myself melting whenever we got to see his moments of vulnerability, particularly around his daughter.

The romance between Jordan and Tate worked so beautifully because it was built on respect, trust and gradual discovery rather than instant fireworks. Their connection develops naturally with moments of tension, playful banter and quiet vulnerability. I loved the fact that Jordan’s fearless sometimes impulsive nature pushes Tate out of his comfort zone, while Tate’s patience and steadiness help Jordan see that letting someone in doesn’t mean losing herself. This only made the slow burn push and pull that dances around these two all the more delicious to follow and root on.

Overall The Wild Card was the heartfelt and satisfying finale to the Vancouver Storm series that will leave fans smiling long after the last page. With relatable characters, a slow burn romance and moments of humour and tenderness made this a book impossible to put down. A definite must read for all sports romance fans!

Former star player Tate Ward has become easily the best coach in professional hockey, leading the Vancouver Storm team to victory. Everyone is in love with the handsome, authoritative single dad—except Jordan Hathaway, the newest staff member on the Vancouver Storm team.

Jordan was more than comfortable behind her bar at the team’s favorite watering hole. When her father threatens to sell the team, though, she’s forced to put her grievances aside and work with the man who likes everyone but her—: Coach Tate Ward.

But beneath his controlled exterior, Tate is funny, encouraging, and protective. He moves Jordan into his guest house, trusts her with his daughter, and fires the person who made her cry. He’s her boss, and a relationship would ruin both their careers, but Jordan still finds herself dreaming of a life with Tate. As the lines between them blur and Jordan encourages him to be selfish, Tate realizes what he wants . . . is her.
