REVIEW: Torrid Little Affair by Kendall Ryan

Torrid Little Affair by Kendall Ryan: Cooper spent the last few months licking his wounds and trying to mend his broken heart when he’s finally called back home to resume his place in the family business. Just like his brothers, he’s rich, sexy, confident, and goes after what he wants. Cooper is the one brother who actually wants to find love and a relationship despite their childhood. He’s charming and open about the past.

Corinne just wants to find a good job with benefits. She is smart, determined, loyal, and serious about honoring her commitments. She doesn’t put herself first, which means that she has no room in her life for a relationship.

Corinne is thrilled to start her new job working as Cooper’s assistant, until Cooper arrives. He’s not at all what she was expecting and they certainly get off on the wrong foot. Cooper is certainly surprised to have such a sexy yet buttoned-up assistant waiting for him. He’s certainly upfront and honest about what he wants and he wants Corinne.

“Corinne, look,” I said, but she gave me a faint shake of the head.
“No, I really don’t want to talk about it.”
“Don’t you think we should, though? We have to work together, and this awkwardness is going to be evident to anyone looking on.”

Cooper and Corinne have amazing chemistry and she’s tempted to take a chance on an affair. Both are surprised by the connection they feel and the tension builds until they finally cross that line. Despite their clear boundaries from the outset, Cooper finds that he wants more. He brings out another side of Corinne, but she’s holding back for her own reasons.

“I’m not sure. What do you want to tell me?”
“How about we trade? A detail for a detail,” I offered, feeling less restrained now that she’d been the one to broach the subject.
Corinne surveyed me warily, then finally nodded her head. “But no questions. Just fact for fact. Deal?”

Torrid Little Affair is a steamy office romance with plenty of surprises. Kendall Ryan put a sexy spin on a well-known storyline while providing tension, anticipation, difficult pasts, conflict, and lots of heat. Ms. Ryan continued to develop the core characters in this series while introducing strong new characters. Torrid Little Affair could be read as a standalone in the Forbidden Desires series. Fans of Tessa Bailey and Lorelei James will enjoy Torrid Little Affair.
