Turbulent Intrigue by Melody Anne: Black sheep of the family Ace is forced back into the fold after being in an explosion while closing a huge case. Ace no longer knows his place, where he belongs. He wants the comfort of his family, but as a CIA agent his world has been far too dark for far too long for him to come back easily.
Seahawks cheerleader Dakota Forbes is as independent as they come. She’s ending her time as cheerleader and plans on earning her pilot’s license, and who best to teach her but Ace? She’s best friends with his brother’s new wife, so both Ace and Dakota know they could be messing up a whole lot if they got together.
But when danger strikes, Ace knows he can’t leave her alone.
This series continue to get worse for me. I really enjoyed the first, but by now I’m honestly a bit annoyed. Both Ace and Dakota are ridiculous. There’s a melodrama to every moment that I’m not a fan of, and how they’re characterized feels silly. Dakota’s so-called gifts in therapy that keep being mentioned? I’ve not seen it, nor has it been explained. I’m just not sure why they’re in each other’s lives.
I like the idea of Ace as CIA. I think that’s a fun element to bring to this series. I had definitely looked forward to his story, and I really wish there was more of a reunion considering his explosive abandonment of his family. But the story never really delves into that which I find disappointing.
Turbulent Intrigue can be read as a standalone, but I would definitely start with the first to get a full feel of the family. For fans of the series, this fits right in. It didn’t work for me, but for those who want the danger and an independent heroine, I recommend this romance.

Sounds great.

Oh no, this sounds like a disappointment. Sorry to hear that. It’s awful when one book in a series is great, but then they go downhill. And I’m so not into melodrama
