Wedded for His Royal Duty by Susan Meier finds Prince Alexandros Sancho engaged to Wedded-for-His-Royal-DutyPrincess Eva Latvaia in an arranged marriage. Eva was originally supposed to marry Alex’s older brother, Dominic, until a one night stand led to him marrying someone else. Eva knows she needs to go through with the marriage with the man she doesn’t know in order to unite the countries, but Alex wants nothing to do with it.

Alex had loved two women in his life–his mother and his girlfriend–and both of them had died. Determined not to experience that pain again, Alex does his best not to get attached to Eva, despite the fact he liked her personality.

She really was the kind of woman a man fell in love with. But he was not the kind of guy to fall in love. Love hurt, so he’d never be that vulnerable, that honest again.

When Alex finds out Eva is danger and that’s the real reason his father was so insistent on the marriage happening, he steps up to the plate. Instead of being the prince with no responsibilities, he takes over the coordination of Eva’s security. He also comes up with ideas to help Eva’s country move forward, when they’ve been stuck with the status quo for so long. He really grows into his role as his feelings for Eva grow.

Eva initially didn’t want to be the queen but she was willing to step up when her father took off. With Alex’s help she goes from being the shy princess to realizing she really did want to rule her country one day. Like Alex, she also grows into her role.

This can be read as a standalone. I have not read the first book in the series, yet I was able to follow along with the characters in this one with no problem.

Wedded for His Royal Duty is a well-written, sweet romance with enjoyable characters. If you enjoy stories where characters are pushed into a relationship and end up falling for each other, or stories with very little drama, then this is not one to be missed.

This was my first time reading anything by her but I enjoyed it so much I’ll probably give her other books a try.
