REVIEW: A Lot Like Forever by Jennifer Snow

A Lot Like Forever by Jennifer Snow is the third book in the Blue Moon Bay series. I have not had the opportunity to read the other books in the series, but I just might go back and do that to see if my original opinion of this book changes. This is the story of Whitney and Trent.

Whitney is a strong willed, self-confident woman who handles everything in stride. She never asks for help, never complains, she just keeps on keeping on. Engaged to Trent, they are planning a future with love, and kids, until she receives some devastating news that rocks her to her core and scares her beyond words. How can she tell Trent? Will this be the end of them?

Trent cannot wait to start his life with Whitney. All he wants is to make her his wife and spend the rest of his loving her and showing her that he is her partner, can help her carry the load. Her independence and strong will is part of why he loves her. But when wedding plans seem to take a back seat for Whitney, and she seems distant, he is beginning to think maybe she has changed her mind. Can he get to the bottom of what she is so desperate to keep hidden before it proves to be the end of them?

I really wanted to love this book, and maybe it was because I came into this series in the middle of the book but I struggled to connect with the characters and the jumping around from past to present confused me at times. I can understand Whitney’s fear to voice the news she received, but to be honest, if you love someone, if you are planning to spend the rest of your life with them, you should be able to talk to them, right? In Whitney’s case, that would be a big wrong! I felt bad for Trent, He really tried to get her to open up to him, and Whitney kept pushing him away, brushing him off. It was frustrating and annoying at times.

Over all, It was a nice read and like I mentioned, maybe if I had read the other books in the series before jumping into this one my context and feeling about these characters would have been different.

Whitney Carlisle has everything under control—or at least that’s what she needs everyone in Blue Moon Bay to think. She has always faced the hard times in her life head-on and come out stronger for it. But this time, she isn’t so sure. Whitney knows she needs help, but how can she put that burden on Trent, her fiancé? How can she crush his dreams by telling him the plans they made for a future together have to change?

All Trent Connolly wants is to get married, have kids, and spend the rest of his life loving Whitney. Their relationship has had its share of ups and downs—like any other couple—and they’ve always managed to get through it unscathed. So when Whitney is clearly struggling with something, Trent is ready to help. His fiancée’s strong will is part of what draws him to her—but this time, it feels like it’s pushing him away.

Whatever Whitney is hiding from everyone has to be big. Possibly life-changing. She must believe that revealing her secret would do Trent more harm than good, even if it crushes her under the weight of it. The only thing he can do now is be there for her in whatever way she needs…until a secret of his own comes to light that threatens to steal their chance at forever.
