Christmas Hideout (McKade Law #3) by Susan Sleeman: Nicole Dyer walks into her apartment one night to find a hunting knife stabbed into her picture on the butcher block counter in her kitchen. Scared for herself and her three-year-old daughter Emilie Nicole packs their bags and goes on the run. She is wondering how her ex-boyfriend could have escalated his stalking to such a potentially deadly level.

Unfortunately her run from Austin, Texas doesn’t get too far as her car breaks down near Lost Creek. It’s too cold to stay in her car with little Emilie so Nicloe seeks shelter in a vacant cabin on the McKay family dude ranch. This is where Deputy Matt McKade finds them. Nicole explains her plight and apologizes for breaking into the cabin. The question is whether or not Matt believes her story. Believe it or not Matt insists Nicole and Emilie move to the main house where he can protect them better. Is Nicole’s story true? Can Matt protect them from her ex? I enjoyed finding out the answers to these questions in this story and think other readers will too.

Christmas Hideout is author Susan Sleeman’s third book in her McKade Law series. The series centers around the McKade family who have found their life’s work in various forms of law enforcement. Susan Sleeman does a super job developing the conflict and resolution in a fast-paced story filled with action, suspense, fun family gatherings and lots of Christmas cheer. And cookies! I was very entertained by this storyline and just loved getting to know three-year-old Emilie and becoming wrapped around her little finger along with the rest of the family in the book.
