Dare Me Again by Shelly Alexander: Rebel isn’t looking forward to returning to the island where she grew up or facing the boy she left behind. Rebel is strong, determined, feisty, and still struggles to feel like she’s truly overcome her past. She’s now a talented dog trainer and she hopes to one day open up her own training facility, but she needs this job to make that a reality.

Elliott is smart, sexy, and is great with business and finances. Returning home to help save the family business was something he needed to do, but he also has one foot out the door. Being back on the island is difficult between his own guilt and memories of the girl who left him without a second glance.

The last thing Elliott wants to do is help run a last-minute boot camp with dogs. He’s not at all good with dogs, so he should be the last member of the family to help out. It really doesn’t help when he learns that none other than the love of his life and high school ex, Rebel, will be the trainer he will need to work with closely over the coming weeks.

“What makes you think something is going on? I lost track of time, that’s all.”
He laced his fingers together and didn’t seem to mind that he was getting drenched. “You only ramble when you’re upset.”
“Pffst,” she huffed with the wave of her hand. “I ramble sometimes. I can be a rambler.”
Good God. Lightening should go ahead and strike her down just to put her out of her misery.

Elliott makes it abundantly clear that he doesn’t want to deal with any of it: the dogs, the camp, and most especially Rebel. Neither have a choice in working together and both quickly learn that their chemistry is back and so are their feelings. They are forced to get to know each other and learn what they’ve missed out on. Both have baggage and are trying to run from the island, but with the help of some special dogs and others, they may have to fight for each other this time.

“My job is mostly about training humans.” She joined Elliott with Rem and Bogart at her side. “Once the human is trained, the dog follows suit.”
“Huh.” Elliott processed that. “If you were training me, where’s my reward?”

Dare Me Again is funny, romantic, and heartwarming. Shelly Alexander created great characters, both human and canine, to bring to life this second chance romance. Ms. Alexander provided conflict, tension, secrets, family, redemption, and heat. Dare Me Again can be read as a standalone in this series. Fans of Erika Kelly and LuAnn McLane will enjoy Dare Me Again.
