Falling Star by Terri Osburn: Chance was living the dream as an award-winning country star until his out-of-control drinking finally cost him his freedom and his career. One year later, Chance is sober and has a record deal with the only Nashville label ready to give him another shot. He has quite the bad boy reputation with anger issues to boot. Luckily, he does have his manager and his band who are still in his corner.

Naomi loves her career in PR, but resuscitating Chance’s career might be more than she can handle. She’s up for the challenge, if only she didn’t have to work so closely with the man who broke her heart and trust seven years ago. She is smart, resourceful, and loves her family. Naomi is loyal to her family, but she’s never learned how to set boundaries with her interfering and meddling mother.

Naomi is less than thrilled to work with Chance, but she’s determined to make this work while not revealing their past to others. Chance was always proud and headstrong, which hasn’t changed at all now that he’s sober. But he is more vulnerable, especially since he has a major case of writers block and he will only record songs he’s written.

“So tell me what you need, Chance. Tell me what I can do to make this work. Because believe it or not, I truly want you to succeed. Do you need more coffee? More cigarettes? A new cat toy for Willie? Just tell me, and I’ll make it happen.”
The silver lighter disappeared behind the vest. “I could go for a doughnut.”
A simple enough request. “Bavarian cream, right?”

It takes some time for them to find a way to work together, and it doesn’t help they haven’t forgotten how good they were as a couple or the attraction that is still there. His time in jail, rehab, and AA have changed him even though he’s still battling the demons that originally drove him to the bottle. Chance has met his match in Naomi as she calls him his crap and inspires him.

“I’ll go with you as your date,” Chance said. “She can’t set you up with Dr. Neal if you’re with someone else, right?”
“I don’t…I mean…” That would be crazy. She couldn’t. “Chance, you don’t have to do that.”
To her surprise, he didn’t take the out. “Do you want to be Mrs. Dr. Neal Whoever-he-is?”

Falling Star focuses on redemption, faith, friendship, and music. Terri Osburn created an engaging story with complicated characters you’ll want to succeed. Ms. Osburn continues to build the world around the new Shooting Stars label with interesting and entertaining characters. Falling Star can be read as a standalone in the Shooting Stars series. Fans of Erika Kelly and LuAnn McLane will enjoy Falling Star.

Awesome book, some of Terri’s strongest writing. I couldn’t put it down. The first one was also very good, Rising Star. I highly recommend both!!
