Holiday with the Billionaire by Kate Hardy: Although Roland isn’t Grace’s biggest fan, after hearing some not-so-nice gossip about her, but when she’s forced out of her apartment due to flooding, he offers his help and use of a room. But as she lives with him, Roland learns there’s a whole lot more to Grace than he thought, but due to guilt over his dead wife the last thing Roland is having trouble thinking about a new relationship.
Recently out of a serious relationship with a god awful almost mother-in-law, Grace is a bit gun shy when it comes to relationships. But when Roland offers two weeks of a faux relationship, one where he’ll sweep her off her feet and she’ll help him learn to date again, she agrees. Sparks fly, but they each hold back, distrusting they can make a relationship work.
‘Oh! Roland. Hello.’ She looked up from whatever she was doing and smiled at him, and to his shock his heart felt as if it had done a somersault.
When had he last reacted to someone like this?
I liked the premise. It’s a cute idea, and I’m always a sucker for the roommate romance. But both Roland and Grace just fell flat for me. The most common compliment Roland applied to Grace was that she’s sensible. I liked her strength and clearness of mind, although she certainly had her self-confidence issues, but I needed something more interesting in my heroine. A spark of something.
Roland, too, just didn’t particularly interest me. He certainly did well in sweeping Grace off her feet, so I can definitely applaud the romantic acts, but I just felt there wasn’t much to him. That said, the conflict felt real between them, and I do think Hardy kept up the tension well with the “Will they, won’t they?”
Holiday with the Billionaire can be read as a standalone. If you’re a fan of roommate reads or billionaire romances I recommend Holiday with the Billionaire!
