REVIEW: Kidnapped for her Secret Son by Andie Brock

In Kidnapped for her Secret Son by Andie Brock, when Jaco Valentino discovers he has a son, he’s determined to find out why Leah McDonald never told him. However, first he must protect her and their son from things that are happening in his life that could turn out to be dangerous. Yet, when the danger is over, will Leah give Jaco a second chance or will she walk away from him again?

”So these are the sort of people you do business with? Thieves and crooks?” Leah was in full flood now, fire flashing in her eyes. “Are your greed and ego really such that you are prepared to go to any lengths to feed them?”
Jaco met her furious gaze full-on. He was not going to be spoken to like this. “You need to learn when to hold your tongue, Ms. McDonald.” Reaching forward, he circled her upper arm in his grasp.
“Or what?” Leah pointedly stared at his hand and Jaco immediately released her, taking several steps away, appalled by the way this woman could make him lose his self-control.

The way this story started with the prologue had me liking the hero and heroine immediately, as they’re trying to steal some time to be together. Yet, the moment also had me sympathizing with the heroine since it seems work keeps the hero very busy and it seems Jaco can only give her a certain amount of his time. Will the heroine do what’s right for her? Will she be able to walk away? However, it was from the moment the hero and heroine are reunited where this story really takes off, as it’s understandable why there’s such animosity between the hero and heroine after what the heroine believes he did and the hero being angered by the fact that she’s been keeping their son a secret from him. Will they be able to work through their issues?

As for the dialogue, it was entertaining due to the main characters back stories, their past history, and what’s going on in the hero’s life that he needs to keep the heroine and his son safe. Will his plan works? Will he and his sister finally be free of the people that changed their lives when their parents died? Moreover, the heroine has made bad decisions in her life and it’s understandable why she finds it hard to trust Jaco. Still, she’s resilient, courageous, feisty and I liked how much of a challenge Leah provided the hero. No way will she make things easy for him after he’s kidnapped her, even though kidnapping her is for her own good and the safety of their son.

While the hero, he’s arrogant, confident, hard-working and I liked how determined he was to win Leah over, even though she’s wronged him but not telling him about their son. I also liked the close relationship the hero has with his only living family member and that he would go to great lengths – no matter how dangerous – to make things safe for his sister. Yet, what I liked most of all about the hero was the growing bond he shared with his son, even if the heroine didn’t want him getting close with their baby. Still, he was adorable with their baby and had me smiling.

”If you were to decide that you don’t want to be with me after all and the relationship breaks down…”
“That will never happen, Leah.”
“I honestly don’t think I could bear it.”
“You will never have to. Lo prometto. I promise.”
“I want to believe you, Jaco, really I do. But I’ve messed up so many times in my life I no longer trust my own judgment.”
“Then trust mine. It’s always right.”

Overall, Ms. Brock has delivered a really good read in this book where the chemistry between this couple was intense due to the fact that the heroine sees Jaco as the enemy after what he does; the romance was passionate and shows that these two still have strong feelings for each other, despite what’s happened in the past and what’s happening now; and the ending had me loving the hero’s determination to prove to the heroine that they’re right for each other. Besides, there’s no way he can let her go when he’s so in love with her. I would recommend Kidnapped for her Secret Son by Andie Brock, if you enjoy the enemy to lovers trope, second chance romances, or books by authors Michelle Smart, Miranda Lee, Cathy Williams and Trish Morey.
