Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake by Mazey Eddings: Lizzie is all about keeping things simple, after having her fair share of epic blunders she has decided that its best to keep things in her love life to a simple; a one and done deal. That is until she breaks her very own rule when she shares two very steamy nights together with charming Australian Rake. Putting her lapse in judgement down to the fact that she has once again lost a job due to her ADHD issues the last thing that Lizzie expected was to walk away from her steamy two night stand with Rake with a very unexpected bun in her oven!

Once burned, twice shy could not be more true when it comes to Rake, but when he learns that his steamy two night stand with the sassy Lizzie has brought them a little surprise, Rake is determined to be there for his child, even if that means up rooting his entire life in Australia and moving across the world to live closer to Lizzie and their child. However the one thing that Rake did not plan on doing was allowing anyone close to his heart again…but somewhere between trying to keep things ‘platonic’ and some very interesting underground baking incidents things begin to change between Lizzie and Rake…could letting each other in be the biggest mistake or their best mistake ever?

I just loved reading Edding’s first book A Brush With Love so I was super thrilled to get my hands on her second book and let me just say that Lizzie and Rake wormed their way right into my heart with their quirky cute surprise pregnancy romcom. I will say the surprise pregnancy trope is not aways a favourite of mine but I really liked the way Eddings worked Lizzie and Rake’s story, also it didn’t hurt that we got some major sunshine meets grump vibes with this couple.

Lizzie was such a treat! I loved her ball of sunshine energy and that she was so full of life. Not only was she super loveable but u liked that she was a relatable character that had flaws and was okay with who she was as a person. If anything I liked the fact that Lizzie showed that just because your brain works differently to most people doesn’t make you any less amazing. I really liked the fact that Eddings had a leading female character with ADHD and that she addressed some of the challenges that people that have this disorder have to face and that there is nothing to feel embarrassed or ashamed about. I really liked that the majority of this book focuses on Lizzie’s story, this really was her book.

Who doesn’t just love a hot Auzzie? Well this was definitely our hero Rake. First let me just say I loved that his name was Rake this only helped add to his appeal which was high with all that broodiness. I think the fact that he was so ready and willing to up root his life so that he could build a connection to his child only made me love his character all the more. I liked that he too had demons that were eating at him and being with Lizzie helped him open up and over come these issues to a large degree.

Good gosh did this book pack in the steam factor in a big way! This was definitely not a book to be read at the office that is for sure! I will say that I really like the chemistry and connection that was brewing between Lizzie and Rake, their connection was pretty undeniable. I really enjoyed getting to see them help each other work through their issues and that they actually had a really nice friendship. More than anything Rake was a total swoon with baking that cute cake for Lizzie, this totally melted me.

Lizzie Blake’s Biggest Mistake was a sweet easy read that really hits home the fact that being different is nothing to hide but we should embrace our differences. I really love that there are more and more neurodiverse characters coming out and this only made me love this book all the more.

Book Info:

Publication: September 6th 2022 | St. Martin’s Griffin | A Brush with Love #2

Lizzie has made endless mistakes. Kitchen fires, pyramid schemes, bangs (of the hair and human variety), you name it, she’s done it… and made a mess of it too. One mistake she’s never made is letting anyone get closer to her than a single hook-up. But after losing yet another bakery job due to her uncontrolled ADHD, she breaks her cardinal rule and has a two-night-stand that changes everything.

Once burned, twice shy, Rake has given up on relationships. And feelings. And any form of intimacy for that matter. Yet something about charming, chaotic Lizzie has him lowering his guard. For two nights, that is. Then it’s back home to Australia and far away from the pesky feelings Lizzie pulls from him. But when Lizzie tells him she’s got an unexpected bun in the oven, he’ll do whatever it takes to be a part of his child’s life… except be emotionally vulnerable, obviously. He’s never going to make that mistake again.

Through a series of mishaps, totally “platonic” single bed sharing, and an underground erotic baking scheme, Lizzie and Rake learn that even the biggest mistakes can have the most beautiful consequences.
