Love Like Crazy by Crystal B. Bright: Avery has always wanted to be a singer, but bad decisions in the past have kept her from her dream and under her parents’ thumb. But when A&R rep Laz shows up promising her a future, Avery finally sees some hope – if only she can trust him and herself.
Laz just lost his job after a wrongful accusation of harassment, and now he needs to find talent to restore his reputation and restart his career. Avery has the voice he’s been looking for; and she just might be the woman he never knew he wanted.
But music is a hard path to take, and Avery has been warned all her life against it. Laz just needs to convince her he’s there to lead her right – but he might just have to open himself up first.
I wanted to like this story, but I just couldn’t. Most importantly, I couldn’t stand either Avery or Laz. Avery was insanely distrusting and overall negative and irrational. I hated being in her POV, and I just did not get her issues. Her big mistake was not that big, and her parents went way overboard. I loved when she finally stood up to them, but I wish it had lasted.
And Laz was kind of icky. The first scenes with him flirting with women were deeply uncomfortable and weird. I’m happy they didn’t last, but overall I found very unlikable, and even I didn’t trust him. The best I can say is they fit together – when they could let their issues out of the way.
This was not my romance. I think the author developed the story well, and the conflict was decent – although it could definitely have been stronger. For those who love the music romance, I can recommend LOVE LIKE CRAZY.
