REVIEW: Only Ever You by C.D. Reiss

Only Ever You by C.D. Reiss: Rachel’s life is not exactly what she envisioned. She fought for others and for what is right. Now Rachel has lost her voice. She works in Hollywood, but she’s not living her dream. She’s smart, driven, loyal, and creative.

Sebastian is the nerd who grew up. He used to be awkward and gangly and often bullied throughout high school. He’s creative, artistic, and loyal. He charted a new path for himself and now he’s sexy, built, and has his own business.

Rachel and Sebastian were best friends and neighbors. Rachel always stood up for and defended Sebastian. Since high school, they’ve grown apart. That changes when both are visiting their parents and are reminded of their marriage pact. They are 30, single, and their parents want a wedding.

“We should go out.”
That got me back to the middle of the street.
“I like dinner.” He shrugged at the obviousness of it all. “You like dinner.”
“I don’t think it works that way.”
“I think you’re wrong.”

Rachel and Sebastian are surprised by the changes they see in each other. In renewing their friendship, they find something they didn’t know they were missing. They reconnect and end up supporting each other, but also finding their connection and history is strengthened by their chemistry. Their new start may be a lie, but it feels pretty real.

“Can I admit something?” I said as I unlocked the door.
“Only if it’s true.”
“If I’m going to make fake marriage plans, there’s no one I’d rather do it with.”
“That’s the closest I’ve ever gotten to a real proposal.”

Only Ever You is intriguing, entertaining, and has it all. CD Reiss developed complex characters with interesting histories. Ms. Reiss provided colorful cast of characters in their families, friends, and co-workers. Fans of Penelope Ward and Vi Keeland will enjoy Only Ever You.

From New York Times bestselling author CD Reiss comes a story of friendship, romance, and growing into a love that was always there.

Rachel knew exactly what turning thirty would be like. She had a plan, after all. First college, then a climb up the professional ladder. Love, marriage, children. All of it was on the schedule.

The cheap Hollywood apartment wasn’t on the list. Neither was the string of heartbreaks. Or the effect her mother’s cancer had on her career.

It’s hard to stay practical and on point when everything takes a left turn.

Enter Sebastian, the nerd across the street. The boy she defended when he couldn’t defend himself. The best friend she promised she’d marry if life didn’t go according to plan.

Not only is he successful, confident, and gorgeous, but he also still has their handwritten marriage contract.

No one goes through with childhood wedding pacts.

That’s crazy.

But their families might just be crazy enough to rent a hall and set a date. All Rachel and Sebastian have to do is fall in love.
