Say Goodbye by Karen Rose: The evil of Eden rears its ugly head once again in Say Goodbye by Karen Rose.

This is a convoluted suspense story with lots of tension and surprises and a wonderful Happily Ever After. Liza Barkley has recently left the army. She was a combat medic. Liza decided to enhance her career opportunities by attending UC Davis for a masters degree in nursing. Her nursing career choice was due to the death of her mother from cancer and the murder of her older sister. Liza has a strong nurturing streak so she picked the perfect career. When she was seventeen she met Tom Hunter while searching for her sister. They became fast friends. Liza knew she loved Tom from the first she met him. Tom was twenty at the time and felt he was too old for seventeen-year-old Liza. Upon graduating from high school Liza joined the army and their relationship was stuck on friendship.

Meanwhile Tom Hunter went on to become a famous NBA basketball player. After a few years with the team Tom retired from basketball and became a FBI agent. His best skills happen to be computer hacking, so quite a good fit with the FBI. In this book Tom is working on trying to find the location of the Eden cult. Some former members from the cult who escaped are being targeted by cult member DJ Belmont who is a cold-blooded killer,

This is book #3 in this author’s Sacramento series. While it can be read as a standalone I would suggest at least reading book #2, Say No More, in order to have a better understanding of the evilness of the cult, the characters who escaped the evil and how everyone works together to try to find Eden to stop the evil. I very much enjoyed this storyline which was filled with lots of action. This was a true page-turner.

Have you ever faced true evil?

Eden faces a final reckoning when the cult’s past victims hunt them down in this explosive, high-stakes thriller in the Sacramento series from New York Times bestselling author Karen Rose.

For decades, Eden has remained hidden in the remote wilds of the Pacific Northwest, “Pastor” keeping his cult’s followers in thrall for his personal profit and sexual pleasures. But the Founding Elders are splintering, and Pastor’s surrogate son DJ is scheming to make it all his own.

When two of Eden’s newest members send out a cry for help, it reaches FBI Special Agent Tom Hunter, whose friend and fellow FBI Special Agent Gideon Reynolds and his sister, Mercy, are themselves escapees of the Eden cult, targeted by the Founding Elders who want them silenced forever. The three have vowed to find the cult and bring it down, and now, they finally have a solid lead.

Neutralizing Eden’s threat will save captive members and ensure Tom’s new friends can live without fear. But when his best friend, ex-Army combat medic Liza Barkley, joins the case, it puts her life—and their blossoming love—in danger. With everything they hold dear in the balance, Tom and Liza, together with Gideon and Mercy, must end Eden once and for all.

There are 2 previous books that deal with Eden in case you are interested.

Sorry but I didn’t rate this book. I’ve enjoyed ever other Karen Rose book but this was poor. The baddie must have been Superman in disguise to keep getting away. Even at the end, despite serious injuries he manages to ridiculously turn the tables on the FBI. Who by the way are portrayed as incompetent. So disappointed in this book.
