The 27 Club by Kim Karr: After losing her brother Zach at 27, Zoey is crippled by the fear and The-27-Clubanxiety that she’ll join the 27 club sometime soon. She can’t make plans for tomorrow, much less what she’ll do today. Finally, Zoey decides to go to therapy and travel to Miami to pack up Zach’s things.

When she arrives in Miami, Zoey’s quickly confronted with the fact that her brother lied to her about his life. While Zoey is determined to finally get to the bottom of her brother’s life and figure out why he hid so much from her, she finds a much needed support system in Nate, Zach’s best friend. Nate is sexy, competent, and controlled. Nate is someone she can talk to and reminisce about Zach. With Nate, Zoey is able to learn more about her brother’s life and friends. Nate offers to help her uncover the secrets Zach was keeping.

Zoey and Nate had previously talked, but their relationship moves to a whole other level as their lives become more intertwined. Zoey feels alive in his presence and is less focused on dying. There was a definite connection between them once they finally met in person. Nate doesn’t believe in destiny, love, or commitment. Sure of her destiny and determined not to have regrets, Zoey goes after what she wants and she wants Nate.

“This has nothing to do with fairy tales, or being rescued, or even my brother. I’m not looking for Prince Charming. I just want to be with you. If you don’t want the same thing, just say so, but don’t try to make yourself out to be some dark, messed-up asshole, because I can see through you.”

What initially begins as an affair, quickly becomes more. Zoey brings out a side of Nate that he’s walled off in his grief and pain. They are so well matched and have great chemistry. Zoey finds herself wanting to know more about Nate and has a difficult time imagining her life back in New York. He pushes her boundaries in a way that she never knew she needed. Beyond that, he makes Zoey want to cheat destiny and live.

“You drive a hard bargain,” he whispers, and I can still feel his naughty smile as his lips brush my ear. “Lucky for you, I’m in the negotiating kind of mood tonight. And I accept the deal on the table.”

The 27 Club is an emotional, sexy, can’t-put-it-down love story of two people who are barely living after losing Zach but finding more than either ever expected.

Kim Karr takes you on an intriguing journey with a unique story that pulls you in. Ms. Karr found a balance between the mystery surrounding Zach’s life, the growing relationship between Zoey and Nate, and the development of Zoey and Nate as individuals. Ms. Karr created an entertaining secondary family for Zach and Nate of fun and colorful characters.

Fans of the Connected series and Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover would definitely enjoy The 27 Club!

You don’t know when…

You don’t get to choose if…

When it’s time to join…you’ll know.

You might think you want to be a member—but trust me this is one club you don’t want to join. It’s not a place where people go to live out their deepest, darkest sexual desires—there are no handcuffs or blindfolds.

The 27 Club only admits those who die young and tragically. My brother was recently bestowed membership and joined many of our ancestors before him. I know I’m next. This is my destiny, and I was ready to yield.

But then I met Nate. He awakened a sensuality in me that had never been explored, never satisfied. I knew then I could no longer accept my destiny. Nate’s presence controls me. I’m overwhelmed by his touch, his words; my every thought is consumed by desire. I believe he was brought into my life for a reason.

Nate doesn’t believe in destiny.

But I do.

And if there’s a way to cheat it—I must.
