The House on Sunshine Corner by Phoebe Mills is the first book in this author’s Sunshine Corner series. This is a lovely second chance romance.

Abby Engel owns and operates Sunshine Corner, a daycare center in Heart’s Hope Bay, Oregon. Abby has tried online dating and has found online dating is not for her.She seems to always end up with losers. Since Abby was a little girl she always wanted to have a loving husband and children. None of the guys she has dated have panned out. Then Abby’s high school sweetheart, Carter Hayes, arrives back in town to help out his sister who has broken her leg and needs help with her three-year-old daughter Sofia. Carter left town after high school and he and Abby broke up. Long distance relationships rarely work out they agreed. But Abby was heartbroken. Seeing Carter again is tough but maybe they can agree to be friends.

Carter Hayes is an architect working remotely while back in the hometown he left after high school. Carter loves Becca and Sofia so spending time helping out feels good as long as he doesn’t have to deal with his emotionally abusive father, the father who never fails to tell Carter he will never amount to anything. Well Carter planned to show him. Carter is close to his goal of opening his own architect business in Vegas. One of Carter’s duties while helping his sister is dropping off his niece Sofia at his high school sweetheart Abby Engel’s daycare so there’s no avoiding Abby. But does he really want to avoid her? Sparks fly every time they see each other. Carter can’t act on this. His plans take him back to Vegas.

Abby and Carter are no longer teens and the eleven years they have been apart have changed them. They agree that their goals are very opposite. I liked how they both came to realize neither had been totally honest after high school. They both matured and realized they faced some bad family issues in their youth and had to overcome that.

Their journey to a HEA sure had some pitfalls. The argument scene was heart-wrenching. I was so glad to see them talk out their issues and realize how much they loved each other. This is a good beginning to the series.

This captivating enemies-to-lovers romance about a daycare teacher who clashes with a brooding dad is perfect second-chance love story for fans of Debbie Mason.

Abby Engel has a great life. She’s the owner of Sunshine Corner, the daycare she runs with her girlfriends; she has the most adoring grandmother (aka the Baby Whisperer); and she lives in a perfect hidden gem of a town. All that’s missing is the thing she wants the most: a family. But after a stint of online dating and a string of bad blind dates, she’s ready to give up. And then her ex-boyfriend (aka the love of her life) walks back into town…

Carter Hayes has no intention of staying in Heart’s Hope Bay. He’s there to help his sister out for a few weeks, and then he’s back on a plane to Las Vegas. But small-town living has its appeal, and it’s not long before Carter’s reminded of just how much he loves his hometown…and the one woman he’s never been able to forget. But after breaking her heart all those years ago, can Carter convince Abby that he’s her happy-ever-after?
