The Sweetest Revenge by Lizzy Dent: As Amy’s life comes crumbling down like a slow-mo car crash; dumped heading to the alter as the 6th bidesmaid and then losing her mind in an act of drunken revenge which costs her her dream job, she flees to London very much with her tail between her legs to rebuild her life.

Two years on, and past wounds thoroughly licked, she finds herself working in a fairly mediocre and struggling TV channel, and whilst she hasn’t stopped convincing herself that she is awesome she is yet to find herself truly shinning. And then of course we meet neighbour Jake and this meet-cute takes another dynamic twist.

As far as RomComs go, The Sweetest Revenge is a fast-pace ditty that captures the imagination and flutters the heart. Starting with a serious bang, we are able to navigate Amy’s disastrous and yet hilarious fall from grace in a fairly intimate fashion. In this sense, Dent uses self-deprecation perfectly and a brand of glib humour that is littered throughout.

Additionally, the manipulation of tension and her ability to build the highs quickly is incredibly engaging along with the side characters and moments of tenderness that are peppered within the second half. And Jake….as always, a well developed character that would melt any heart and whilst her liquored liaisons always seem to lead to some random embarrassment, like a cat, she always finds herself landing on her feet.

From beginning to end, this is a super fun read and highlight recommended for Dent’s solid understanding of what the heart wants.

Her past is a mess. But her present is about to get delicious.

Amy is more than one disastrous night of drunken revenge on her boss/ex-boyfriend’s Audi—the night that tanked her rising TV producer career and led to a hasty move to London for a fresh start. She is thirty years of awesomeness. At least, that’s what Amy tells herself every morning before trekking to her mediocre job making trailers at a failing British TV channel.

Two years later, she’s finally starting to believe it. Sparks are flying between her and Jake, her handsome new downstairs neighbor, and there’s a competition at work that just might get her career back on track while bringing her and Jake even closer. But then, in a twisted turn of fate, the ex-boyfriend who wrecked her life is hired as her new boss and past and present are about to epically, hilariously collide.
