Spotlight&Giveaway

Hi N.J. Walters and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, Arctic Bite!

Hi , everyone! I’m so happy to be here at HJ!

Please summarize the book a la Twitter style for the readers here:

Assassin Alexei Medvedev has tracked Cassie Dobbs to a remote bar in small-town Alaska, where this hot-as-hell Reaper is casually serving drinks, as if she doesn’t have a bounty on her head from Death himself. Alexei is dangerously intrigued, but everyone in the Brotherhood knows the first rule: don’t fall for your target.

Please share the opening lines of this book:

Cassandra held out her hand and beckoned. “Come with me.” She ignored the crushing sadness that bled from the woman. It was a drawback of the job that she could sense
every emotion from whoever she approached.

The woman looked around, a bewildered expression on her face.

Please share a few Fun facts about this book…

Alexei is a dangerous predator, an assassin, but his bear side loves to have fun. He can be intense one second and playful the next. And he loves to eat…a lot. And he has a fondness for whiskey.

What first attracts your Hero to the Heroine and vice versa?

Alexei had tracked Cassie to a bar in Alaska. She’s smart and witty, with a thirst for life that’s infectious. There’s a bounty on her head, but being a thoughtful bear, he plans to thoroughly investigate before agreeing to the job. He’s intrigued when he can’t quite figure out what she is. She reads as human, but there’s so much more to her. For the life of him, he can’t understand why someone wants her dead.

Alexei is big and strong and handsome as sin with a huge appetite and a penchant for drinking too much whiskey. She’s been on the run for months and wants to experience everything there is to life before hers runs out. And that includes sex. It’s risky, but a man like him doesn’t walk into a woman’s life every day.

Using just 5 words, how would you describe Hero and Heroine’s love affair?

Forbidden. Perilous. Scorching. Tumultuous. Deadly.

The First Kiss…

He remained seated but reached out and hooked his hand behind her waist and sort of corralled her against his chest. His impossibly wide chest.

“What are you doing?” Excitement and a sense of anticipation sent her heart racing.

“Complicating things.”

What does that mean?

He pressed his lips against hers. They were soft and firm. Warmth spread from where they touched and traveled throughout her body, driving back the ever-present chill. She curled her fingers into his sweater to steady herself. The heat from his big body surrounded her.

In spite of his size, he was extremely gentle. Most likely because of his size he was used to having to be careful.

His beard was a soft brush against her chin. Her breath hitched in her throat when he eased away. His eyes seemed to glow. Then he blinked and they were normal again. A trick of the light and the passion clouding her brain.

Without revealing too much, what is your favorite scene in the book?

I honestly don’t have a favorite scene. I love them all. But here’s a fun one.

“Good morning.” The deep rumbling voice coming from her tiny galley kitchen made her blood thicken. Rumpled and as sexy as ever, he leaned against the doorframe, coffee mug in hand.

He was only half dressed, his T-shirt tossed across the living room chair beside his sweater. But a partially naked Alexei was simply too much to ignore.

His impossibly broad chest tapered down to a lean waist. His abs were the stuff of wet dreams. And the muscles in his arms flexed and rippled with every move he made.

Was her tongue hanging out? She feared it might be but didn’t want to reach up to check.
I’m supposed to be angry that he’s made free with my kitchen.

“Here.” He handed her the mug of coffee. “No milk and two sugars, right? That’s how you had it last night.”

And her anger fizzled and died. How could she be upset with a man who not only made her coffee but also remembered how she liked it? Not to mention he’d folded the blankets she’d given him.

If your book was optioned for a movie, what scene would be absolutely crucial to include?

Their first meeting at the bar is the scene that is absolutely crucial. It sets the tone for the rest of the book.

“You gonna order something or are you going to sit there all night and brood?” the sexy bartender asked.

Alexei studied the woman, his intended target.

Her black hair was sleek and cut short. Way shorter than his. But it suited her, framing her exquisite face and making her pretty green eyes stand out. She resembled a fairy princess in a storybook. No, scratch that. She’d be a queen. Definitely a queen.

What had she done to warrant a contract on her life? The details had been way too sparse for his liking. Hell, he didn’t even know exactly what she was—only that she had to be “other” or the client would never have contacted the Brotherhood. Being immortal didn’t mean you couldn’t die. Just that you were damn hard to kill.

“Hello?” She waved her hand in front of his face. He barely suppressed a growl. “What will it be?”

“Whiskey. Leave the bottle.”

Readers should read this book …

This is not your ordinary love story. If you enjoy a dark paranormal romance with complex characters then give it a try.

What are you currently working on? What other releases do you have planned?

I’m currently working on a short, sexy science fiction romance. And there will be at least two more Forgotten Brotherhood books.

Thanks for blogging at HJ!

Excerpt from Arctic Bite:

“Who hired you?” she demanded, going on the offensive.

His frown deepened. “I don’t know and don’t care. The money is good. And it’s a challenge. A kill I can make without repercussions.”

The absurdity of the lie made her smile. Someone was playing with the guy. Not only couldn’t he end her, but if he somehow managed, the fallout would be on scale with a nuclear war.

“That amuses you?” His eyes turned red and his fangs dropped. As did all pretence of civility.

“I find it hilarious. They didn’t hire you to kill me.” She eyed both men, more curious about Alexei’s reaction. “They sent you after me as bait, hoping I’ll take you out so they can find me.”

“Impossible. I’m a three-hundred-year-old vampire. There’s no one more dangerous than me.”

“Don’t get out much, do you?” Alexei’s reply was so unexpected that she laughed.

Damian leaped into the air, his body hurtling toward her at an inhuman speed. She ducked, ready to defend herself, but he never reached her. In a blur of motion, Alexei seized him and tossed him across the room.

She winced as the wall separating the pool area from the main room became little more than kindling. That was going to be a costly repair.

Alexei lumbered toward him, head lowered, fists clenched. “You don’t touch her.”

Wow, that was unexpected and…nice. No one ever protected her. Most people avoided her like the plague. Death followed wherever she went.

Damian jumped back to his feet and wiped a drop of blood from the corner of his mouth before licking it from the tip of his finger. “You’ll pay for that.”

“Walk away,” Alexei told him. Cassie wasn’t sure if she was impressed he was giving the other man an out or if she should be worried. He’d come here this evening to execute her, which meant he’d do the same to Alexei to get to her.

After tossing him through a wall, she figured Damian would find it very necessary to end him for the insult alone.

What if it had been nothing more than sheer luck that Alexei had stopped him? He was quick, but he was a shifter. Vamps were deadly and fast. She had no idea which one of them was actually stronger.

“No plodding polar is going to stop me.” He shot her a glare, looking past Alexei to her. “And whatever you are, I’m going to drink your blood.”

She shook her head and sighed. Why couldn’t life be easy, just for once? After an eternity of service, you’d think she’d deserve retirement, or at least a prolonged vacation.

It wasn’t fair.

But if she’d learned anything over the course of her existence, it was that life wasn’t fair. Not in the least. The fates and gods were capricious, granting and removing favor on a whim. If there was a plan, she couldn’t see it.

She could philosophize later. Now was the time to fight. Something else she’d never done before. Never had to.

She really wasn’t equipped to fend off attackers. Her only recourse was to kill them. And damn Death and the rest of them. They knew that.

Arctic Bite
Forgotten Brotherhood, Book Two

Being immortal doesn’t mean you can’t die. It just means you’re damn hard to kill.

When Alexei Medvedev joined the Forgotten Brotherhood—paranormals hired to assassinate other paranormals—he knew it wouldn’t be a cake walk. But his next target is one of Death’s own Reapers gone rogue. For the first time since he started this gig, “damn hard to kill” feels more like “damn near impossible.”

Tracking Cassie Dobbs brings him to a remote bar in small-town Alaska, where this hot-as-hell Reaper is casually serving drinks, as if she doesn’t have a bounty on her head from Death himself. Alexei is dangerously intrigued. Everyone in the Brotherhood knows the first rule: don’t fall for your target.

But Alexei soon has bigger problems to face than an unexpected attraction. They only send assassins after those who deserve to die…or so he’s been made to believe. Now that he’s met Cassie, though, he’s not so sure.

What if everything he’s been told is a lie, and the person he’s been sent to kill is the only one who knows the truth?

I’ve always be partial to angels but the animal shifters are fun to read too

  2. joab4424

I’ve been reading a bear-shifter series and love it. So that makes bear shifters my favourite paranormal creature.

  3. Crystal

What is my favorite Paranormal creature? That would have to be Angel. Here’s why. I like Angels because you can’t tell by their looks that they are an Angel and they come in so many shapes, sizes and etc… Sometimes I wonder when reading a book by the actions if they’re really an Angel. Angels make good characters in books and to bad we don’t see more Angels in books.

  4. Pammie R.

I don’t really have a favorite, but I suppose I like werewolves. I have a Wolf ancestor and tend to howl at the moon now and then.

  5. BookLady

Even though I enjoy reading about all paranormal creatures, the vampire is still my favorite.

  6. Eva Millien

This book sounds great, Thanks for sharing it! You really ask the hard questions! I really don’t know how to answer that because they each have their own “special-ness” & sexiness that makes me want them all … but if you insist I guess I will go with dragon shifter!

  7. Patricia B.

Shifters are a favorite. They can be wolves, bears, big cats, they all work for me.
