Montana D-Force by Elle James: Back in her hometown for her longest visit yet in thirteen montana-dforce-elle-jamesyears, Mia’s forced to face her demons as she begins the search for her rapist. Filled with guilt over not reporting him before, now she’s set her mind to. But someone seems to be after her, leading Mia to hire a bodyguard through her friend’s company.

Bear, a medically discharged former soldier, takes the job as his first solo assignment. Not knowing what else to do after his discharge, he took up with the protection company, but he certainly never expected to become so protective of his charge, Mia.
As they spend their days, and nights, together in investigation, sparks fly and Mia begins to trust another man.

I think Bear was awesome, and he was probably my favorite part of the story, but I did not have enough of him. Bear was sweet and, although a common trope, had a story and personality I would have liked to delve more into.

Otherwise, I just felt Mia was weak and whiny. She went through a horrible tragedy, but instead of being strong in her mission and looking forward, she was wishy-washy and I just could not respect her. The romance between her and Bear, as well, was weak, based solely on physical attraction and Bear’s protective instinct. And the suspense aspect of the story was poorly done, cliché, and mostly annoying to me – but I’m also not generally a fan of this kind of suspense.

The third in a series, Montana D-Force can be read as a standalone. For suspense readers and military romance fans I would recommend Montana D-Force.
