The-Trouble-with-ScotlandThe Trouble With Scotland by Patience Griffin: Ross is relieved to no longer be engaged to Pippa and he’s looking forward to finally enjoy being single. Except no one will leave him alone; one single woman after another is constantly being sent in his direction in the hopes that he’ll fall in love and settle down. He’s determined to find his own happiness and no longer make decisions in order to keep the rest of the town happy.

Sadie simply wants to be left alone. She’s recently received some bad news and then her beloved grandmother, Gigi, passes away. She wants time to grieve and adjust to her life moving forward, but her pushy older brother insists that she still go on the quilting retreat to Kilts and Quilts in the Scottish Highlands that she won with Gigi.

Sadie reluctantly makes to trip to Scotland, but she struggles with everything. Being around the quilting ladies at Kilts and Quilts is just too much right now, especially since everyone seems to know about Gigi’s death.

“I have to get out of here!” That’s when she realized she wasn’t alone.
Leaning against the edge of the building a few feet away stood Handsome. He walked forward and stuck out his hand to help her down the last few steps. “I owe you, lass. Tell me where you want to go. I’ve got a truck.”

Ross and Sadie form a fast friendship as they are both seeking escape from the pressures and well-intentioned interference of others. They also connect over their job situations as both fell in line with familial expectations or desires; Sadie can’t stand her job while Ross is questioning what he wants to do for a career. They love to spend their time together and Ross is always quick to buffer Sadie from the overbearing quilting ladies.

Before long both are struggling with an unexpected attraction to each other. Ross was only looking for friendship, but he can’t stop thinking about Sadie and he hates the thought of her with another man. Sadie believes that she’s out of his league even though he feels like home. It becomes more difficult to resist their attraction, especially as Sadie’s trip is coming to the end.

“Ross, you forget that I’m only your friend.” Then her eyes met his. Her gaze now held steel and determination. “Do I look like I’ve had a lobotomy?” She patted once more, then walked past him, down the hall, slamming the bedroom door behind her.

The Trouble with Scotland is a sweet romance set against the vivid backdrop of the Scottish Highlands. Patience Griffin shows true strength in Sadie as she develops throughout the story. Ms. Griffin provides colorful characters with some very strong opinions in the village residents, especially the quilters who are never afraid to meddle. Fans of Kimberly Lang and L.A. Fiore will enjoy The Trouble with Scotland.
