In One Night with a Millionaire (Daring Divorcees #1) by Shannyn Schroeder, Tess Howland doesn’t have time for a relationship since her three kids and two jobs take up all her time. However, meeting Miles Prescott has her wondering if it’s time to give love another shot, especially since he’s so determined to convince her to take a chance on him. Will Miles be able to win Tess over or will her trust issues be too much to overcome?

I think you owe me a real explanation. Face-to-face.”
“I just said I’m busy. You’re treating me like I’m a jerk, which maybe I am because I snuck out of your room without saying goodbye. So why would you want to spend more time with me?”
“Because I don’t think you want to be a jerk. And I had a great time, too. I’ll bring you the necklace if you have coffee with me.”=
His bargaining raised her hackles. It was too reminiscent of her ex. “I’m supposed to let you blackmail me into a coffee date? Over some knock-off necklace I could just replace?”

This is the first book I’ve read of Entangled Publishing’s new August line; a line where authors write stories containing heroes and heroines over forty and for someone that doesn’t read a lot of books where either the hero or heroine are aged forty or over, I’ve got to say that I absolutely enjoyed this story, of which encompasses a Divorcee support group that challenge each other to take another chance on love; a heroine that doesn’t find it easy to trust after what her ex-husband put her through; and a hero determined to win the heroine over because she’s the first woman that’s intrigued him so much to want a forever relationship.

The way this story started had me liking the heroine immediately, as she’s determined to have fun and let her hair down because she doesn’t get a lot of opportunities for a night out without her children. However, it was from the moment the hero and heroine come face-to-face for the first time where this story really takes off, as Miles and Tess have great chemistry that only gets stronger the more Tess tries to resist the hero while he’s determined to spend more time with her. Will Miles get his way? Will Miles decide to walk away because Tess isn’t easy to get to know?

”I think you have control issues.”
He laughed. “No more than you do, Miss Bossy Pants.”
“I’m only bossy because I have a lot to do. I don’t have time for people to figure out what to do and how to do it. It’s easier to tell them. It’s not so much about being in control as it is about being efficient.”
“Whatever you need to tell yourself,” he said.

With the main characters, the heroine is resilient, courageous, a good mother and I loved how determined she was to keep from getting too close to Miles for fear of getting hurt. He has quite the reputation when it comes to women and there’s every possibility he could end up hurting her, especially since he’s a man that likes control. While the hero, he’s always felt like the odd one out when it comes to his family, but I liked that he finally realized what he wants out of life when it comes to his role in the family company and how determined he is to make things happen. I also liked his determination to win the heroine over, no matter how many ups and downs they have on their journey to happy ever after.

Overall, Ms. Schroeder has delivered a charming read in this book where the chemistry between this couple was strong; the romance was delightful and had me loving the hero’s determination to win the heroine over because they’re so good together; and the ending was heart-warming because the hero is certainly determined to prove to the heroine that she can count on him to be there for her always. However, it was the final chapter that wrapped this story up perfectly because of Tess’s surprise for Miles. Then again, she loves to have control of things just as much as he does and what a way to get one-up on the hero. I would recommend One Night with a Millionaire by Shannyn Schroeder, if you enjoy the mysterious strangers trope or books by authors Amanda Ashby, Julie Particka, Julie Hammerle and Natasha Moore.
